I guess it depends on the beat... as you said, i dont think of it that way... I do beats to make beats... some are more instrumentals, some are for MC's... but I could not say that there is one that happens more than the other, cuz, to me, there is a gray area...

Some beats are in between, and could be instrumentals or be used by an MC... My beats are always evolving, the final touch is never there... to me, that is

I'd say a lot of stuff I do would be hard for an emcee to use, or at least it would take an open-minded and talented emcee to work with...Somtimes because of unusual structure/tempo/bpm/time siganture etc. or because the track isn't as hard hitting as a traditional hiphop beat.

Some tracks I do purely as instrumentals, and I know from the start that I don't intend to work with an emcee, but other tracks I do will be simpler, leaving more room for an emcee to work with....I have only worked with a few emcees however, so I can't say I have a great deal of experience with the matter.

yeah i do both. i primarily write for mc's but youve gotta keep it simple when doing this to allow plenty of room for the lyrics. sometimes i start instrumental tracks so i can experiment with more outragous ideas. it kan get pretty krazy but your also free to do whatever the hell you want. you can add heaps of layers with all kind of trippy shit goin on. i think you learn a lot from writing instrumentals, as the track has to stand alone without voice your sounds need to be sounding nice and everything has to sit just nice.
