Does anyone know how to do that rising synth sound that Just Blaze does on a lot of his tracks? I doubt that he's using a pitch bend wheel because it sounds to controlled. Any tips? Thanks and peace!
hmmm in reason 2.5 theres a malstrom patch called "fx2" , its the closest preset to that just blaze sound. otherwise you gona have to mess with some lfos if you want to build it from scratch.
if it is rising in pitch i'd say it would just be him setting his portamento time to be really slow on his synth (probably makes it work with the tempo) playing a low note then a high note and sustaining the high note. could be how he is doing it
its an oscilator setting .. its actually very simple to do.. just play around with your oscilator settings and u should get it... slow rate with a rising waveform.
there, increase the amount of the lfo, but put the minimum rate. also make sure you choose the circled type of wave, the rising type one. most synths will have similar settings.
open this file with media player, you should hear how that particular method i showed you sounds like. but u can tweak more and get it to sound way better, what i did here was just a couple of seconds.
portamento is how it is done (well that's how people who know what they're doing do it) and i would think this is how just blaze would do it. The thing about portamento is you can have a 'target' pitch for your synth sound to 'rise' to (or fall to). This sorta technique i heard for the first time on the edwin birdson track rising sign (funky). The advantage of portamento is a more 'musical' control. no automation or pitch bend involved here (most good synths have portamento (even some samplers have it)
