I was in the cubs for about 3 weeks, until I got bored and all my mates were having fun and I was stuck going to cubs. Good job I got out, before the scout master took a shine to me.

R.E. The Hitler Youth: A friend of mine's mother was actually in the Hitler Youth and it wasn't anywhere near as full on as this, according to her:
Basically any German child of a certain age was 'required' to join, (meaning the Gestapo visited your house if you didn't). She said the only real difference between the Hitler Jugend and Scouts was the propaganda: i.e. songs they sang and lectures from their leaders about how rocking Hitler was. They did do some drilling with fake guns but there was no real combat/police style training to it, (even though it's purpose was to ready children to be good, patriotic soldiers for the Fuhrer. The actual military style training came a bit later when they joined the army).
This is great stuff for kids.

I think it's an awesome idea, as long as it's monitored well and the children have enstilled in their minds that they shouldn't use their training as a tool to bully or antagonize other people.

How old were they though? Late teens mostly.
