I must admit, when I first heard that production on DOA, I was blown away. In my opinion, No ID and Ye outdid themselves....talk about digging in the crates...oh my goodness....didn't realize that the horns and that electric guitar could mate like that without fighting each other and sound so good. My guess NO I.D. chopped up the sample (http://www.rapradar.com/music/yns-breakaday-jay-z-qdoaq-sample.html), Ye did the drums...sounds like his drums. Baseline is insane. Some of you guys may not agree but, man, if I could produce something on this level, I'd be right with me. Congrats to No I.D./Ye for a monster.

baseline? you must be kidding right?

Seriously though, is this the first time you heard a Kanye beat? He was mad nice with the samples back in the day... He's fallen way off though. Judging by Kanye's most recent "direction" I wouldn't be surprised if Kanye did little or nothing on that beat. I mean, for fucks sake, KANYE WEST FUCKING LOVES AUTOTUNE.

autotune only sounds good when a person that can actually SING uses it. imo (jamie foxx)

on the other topic, when u find a sample, regardless of whether its hot or not, your chops and/or loops will dictate how your baselines and drum patterns will sound... it comes down to your imagination and how much time u spend on the sample... sometimes, u gotta chop a sample a few times... and also at different lengths, until u find a pattern u like... check my youtube vid "3 beats 1 sample" to understand what im talkin bout... the time between the creation of the 1st beat and the 3rd is around a year... i never give up on a sample... i usually will chop it a few times... your ideas on monday might be a bit different on wednesday.

Didn't LDB (Lil' Drama Boi) have a post saying that Kanye's albums have coded rainbow colors and the gay pride teddy bear in 'em? I also heard that "Love Lockdown" is about Kanye singing to some dude that their love has to be kept on the "down low" so "nobody has to know" and it's "locked down" or some shit because of society.

Anyway, autotune will probably become more transparent and the pitch correction will be less noticeable as the algorithm gets better.

The thing I notice is that AutoTune trains people's ears for the vocal to be "in tune" all the time - whereas before singers could sway slightly out of pitch (to convey emotion) and that wouldn't be caught by the untrained ear.

It's noticeable when you switch from a hiphop/RnB station/Top40 station where all the vocals are ATR'ed to a classic rock station.

I remember saying to myself "shit, I don't remember Eddie Vedder being THAT out of pitch."

I won't even talk about Anthony Kiedis from RHCP. At least T-Pain is in key (lol.)

Hahaha but he always sounded out of key to me.

He's one of the shittiest singers with one of the world's best rhythm sections (Flea and Chad Smith.)

Wow....so much for sparking some intellectual debate - dudes took that and ran with the whole gay thing....its responses like that that kill these sites....

Beserk I feel you on the beat....I feel that everyone says that "anyone" could have made "that beat"....they been saying that from Through the Wire....its always interesting that thats always said AFTER the beat come out and you can analyze. Not knocking the opinion but hindsight is always 20/20 - that what makes these dudes tight at they craft.

^ The beat is tough, regardless on who done it. I thought the drums were serious.. the sample is tough..Yes it's just a loop..but that beat wasn't supposed to bump in the club, that's hard shit you drive in traffic to..

I could give a fuck who made the beat, if it's tough, it's tough.a

If Relic made that beat, I'd give him dap and tell him that's one of the toughest beats I've heard in a while.... But there are people out there that would say it's tough because of who produced it...But that's with any producer/artist.

So for Solace to say what he said is a moot point in my opinion..That's with everything else involved in music, it's nothing new.

Yeah "anyone could've made that beat" but since none of us did, not anyone could've made that beat because if that was so, everyone would've made that beat....IMO. =)

What about Bob Dylan with auto tune, or pitch correction..?? lol, he would never had a career.

Quite possibly. But things these days are so much about technology....

You may not even have a good singing voice, but if your voice/delivery is catchy...It doesn't really matterif you could sing, anymore. You hear some of those people on American Idol and you know they could sing...but they will never get a deal because they're not unique enough or don't have the look.
