usually, i just put on some old soul and spark a blunt or two. you get in the feeling on the music, dig until you find something you want to sample, and then it clicks...all the beats i've made that have been high quality always come from a sample or synth sound that just hit me and made me say "damn play that back real quick." If it doesn't hit you and inspire you like that, the beat probably isn't gonna be all that hot

i just be like if i could sell some beats, i could buy a plane ticket home and buy new equipement. that gets me in the mood.. money is the best catalyst. Or just hearin a dope song. doesnt have to be a beat, just anysong in general that im feelin, regardless of the genre.

or

seein a good movie. for instance Cradle 2 da Grave would get me hyped to produce a beat accordingly

if im composin a beat ill just pick a scale and fuck around till i get a hot melody, and that gets me going. or if im sampling something ill grab a record and listen to a song i wanna make a beat outta, or ill just be like fuck it, imma make a beat outta this record, chop it somehow and make it work

Yeah, that shit bangs!

I like to hear something that's really, really dope. Whether it be hip hop or some funk, soul... Anything that gives me the feeling I need to apply to my next beat.

Stay Blazed.

I dont know, I ususally just paste all my fav. instruments, vsts, and fonts into a pattern on FL and pick out a good set of drums and just start manipulating one pattern. Then I go back and make several copies of the pattern and change em around to see if I like it. Replace drums for other drums or layer if needed. I don't sample so I usually just play guitar maybe for a while until I like a little melody and then go w/ it.

P.S.
alot of cats say that you should always seperate drums from instruments in FL, but i never have and I find that I can mix the drums better if I can hear the rest of the instruments along w/. Let me know what you FL users think about that.

Peace,
Elementree

Yup, always have. My playlist looks like a big long twisty-turvy snake. The only patterns my drums arent in are like the intro patterns and the patterns where I add extra percs. and inst. in to the song. If the drums drop, I just make a new pattern with the same instruments and drop out the drums that I want out of the pattern

smoke me some dro,,, usually listeing to something im really hyped on... example

in the studio.. listening to "i kno you dont love me" by tony yayo.. then i go thru some records... and find something i like and crush it... or jump on thekeyboard and crank it out..

i usually chill for a sec.. put on a movie if i dont wanna hear other people shit.. and jus fiddle around till somethin hits me.. usually i start with a sound that inspires me.. then i have a strong all around drum library.. and i get busy from there...

most important thing is not 2 force it cuz then you get frustrated and that can lead 2 more problems..

putting them all in the same pattern is weird to me, i see how it works, but i always seperate everything out
