Just yesterday I was reading how Juelz hard drive crashed and he thought he might of lost all his Pro Tool files for "What The Game's Been Missing". Luckily (depending on your perspective) he was able to get it fixed and retrieve all the files.

I've teamed up with a kat, SP Double to form a group Lost Gems. We've been recording an EP and needed to touch up a few tracks and record one more track then start pressing up the shit. We've been recording in Pro Tools and have saved all the files. We both knew we needed to get an external hard-drive to back up all the files and/or a DVD burner. The problem was neither of us have had the money to do that, we were going to cop one this Friday when my wife got paid.

Last night while waiting to catch the Lightrail to get to school. I was telling my wife about the Juelz situation saying we need to back up our shit.

This morning I roll into work and my message light is blinking on my phone. I check the messages and the last one is my boy telling me, the computer where all our files are has crashed, and we've lost all the beat configuaration files, all the Pro Tools sessions etc.

We can take the computer to a repair shop but there's no guarantee that we'll be able to retrieve the files.

I'm not that vexed about it. It sucks for sure, but I'm always one to move forward. We're never going to be able to recapture the feeling our recording had. I have a rough mixed CD of all but one of the tracks and I can honestly say we had a dope consistent product that would've been well recieved and appreciated by a lot of people. A big element of the recordings were ad libs and shit that just can't be duplicated, exactly. It will lack the energy and spontaniety of the original recording.

AWWWWW!

man thats crazy but I have a piece of software on my other computer that I dont use by ontrack, it can recover files of a hard drive thats crashed its pretty amazing also, I have had drives I thought I wiped all the files off of and formatted it was able to find some files from there, I have not used the software in awhile though but when I had to it worked....but you are right capturing certain elements and ambiance are hard to duplicate....

I had a tech come to the crib last night, he was able to retrieve all the files. I put up the loot for a hard drive and burned all the files to four sets of discs.

So I have copies of each file on my computer....one set of discs at my house, one set of discs at my Dad's crib, and one set of discs at my in-laws crib, and my boy has copies of them too.

Thank the lawd!

Nice, redudancy is the key, i mail a copy of my backup DVD's to my parents every month as well as keep copies at my crib. Its important u get the info on a stable medium like DVD's. Harddrives, zip disks etc.. arent stable at all(they are magnetic)

Anyway glad u got ur files back, take this experince and learn from it
