ILLMUZIK PROJECT idea - share a drum pattern (looking for volunteers)

whattup fam,

I think we all want to see Illmuzik be as helpful and as inspiring a place as it possibly can be, but we can't just rely on others to make that happen. If everyone brings a lil' something to the table to help others out, then it makes Illmuzik a better place...

I was thinking about how can I help contribute something... then I thought of taking it back to the basics with sharing a few drum patterns with y'all. Some people may be like "I dont need someone elses drum pattern N.U.G." and that's true... but you might learn something that can add some flavour to ur drum patterns by peeping some different variations and thangs (in my opinion)...

now, to make things fun and to involve other Ill peeps, I'm looking for other peeps to join in on this lil project. All that would be involved is sharing ONE drum pattern a day for the next 10 days or so. Easy stuff... who's down to be involved?

here's my first contribution;

DRUM PATTERN 1

inspiration: Craig David feat Mos Def - 7 Days (remix)
produced by: DJ Premier

h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h -

k - k - s - - - - - k - s - - - k - k - s - k - - - - - s - - -

KEY

h = hat
k = kick
s = snare

holla!!

Hey Nug that's a dope idea, another thing to add from a drumming perspective is where and when to accent.....I always use velocity on my high hats to give a nice feel to my patterns, a hat, snare or kick in a real world will never hit at the same velocity....Imma post up some of mine too, also does that pattern persist thru the entire song or is there a changeup ?

Making a drum beat is kind of easy... but if that can help someone... why not...

Drum PATTERN 2

Inspiration: .... me
Produced by: me

h o h h h - h - h - h - h - h - h o h h h - h - h - h - h - h
k - - - s - - k k - - - s k - - k - - - s - - k k - - - s k k

h = hihat
o = opened hihat
k = kick
s = snare

the accent thing is a great idea! It might be difficult for some peeps to recognise the different dynamics and accent in a drum pattern so we won't make it compulsary to include, but for someone like yourself who is familiar with it, it would be much appreciated if you included it where possible :)

how about we say normal text is normal and then a capital is a harder accent, so for example, a high hat pattern with a louder accent every now and again might look like;

H - h - h - h - H - h - h - h -

or if the accent was on a high hat with lower velocity it could be;

h - H - H - H - h - H - H - H -

I hope that makes sense :p

also with the DJ Premier pattern I put up the top, there is a variation of another two bars. I'll put that variation up later today :)

thanks to anyone who contributes!

DRUM PATTERN 3

inspiration: Craig David feat Mos Def - 7 Days (remix)
produced by: DJ Premier

(NOTE: this is the additional 2 bars of drum patterns from the song in PATTERN 1)

h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h -

k - - - s - - - - - k - s - - - k - - k s - k - - - k - s - - -

if you add my first pattern to this one you have the full 4 bar loop that is repeated throughout the song :)

i.e. DRUM PATTERN 1 & 3

h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h - h -

k - k - s - - - - - k - s - - - k - k - s - k - - - - - s - - - k - - - s - - - - - k - s - - - k - - k s - k - - - k - s - - -

Primo also adds some real subtle stuff on a few kicks I just noticed too... it's either a flammed kick, a real subtle extra kick, or a layered kick that comes in a little bit earlier than the original kick

:)

Interesting idea, NUG, are these meant to be from known hiphop tracks or just anything you feel like?

...anwway, 1 bar of a very simple 16th note hihat, funk sort of pattern.

H - h - h - h - H - o - H - h - H - h - h - h - H - o - h - o
- - - - - - - - - S - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - S - - - - - - -
K - - - k - K- - - - - - - - - K- - - K- K- - - - - - - - - - - K

h = hihat
o = opened hihat
k = kick
s = snare

(capitol=accent [>] play note louder....)

EDIT> wtf, my pattern got all moved around and stuff after I posted it.

Honestly Not to Dis your Thread but This shit will only really helps Newbs that be askin Questions like " What Number on the Step Sequencer do I put my Kicks and Snares ? "

I think a more Reasonable Question that would help Everyone instead of just newbs would be to share a Break down Pattern on the 4th or 8th bar

aye man, that's cool... some people will find it useful whether they are newbies or not and some people may not find it useful at all which is cool too...

I'm keen to see your contribution to this or other projects when you have the time cuz

peace
