So I was thinking about how to build community in the virtual world and I just have to say illmuzik rocks. A few examples
#1 We welcome new members and invite them to participate. I have went on a few other boards and posted an intro and NO ONE said hi or welcome or anything.
#2 For a hip-hop community we have fantastic intellectual discussion even when people disagree, there is always mutual respect.
#3 Everyone here seems to be really trying to build a community with useful information.
#4 Very rarely does anyone get offended when there beats get critiqued this is very mature.
#5 many people on these boards know each others real names, and they talk on the phone or even in real life. Its VERY unusual.
#6 Almost everyone here is committed to each others success. It seems everyone LOVES it when a fellow ill head makes it or does something cool. Not the negative jealous crap you see on other forums.
I have been on the Propellerheads forums as of late (with the beta stuff) and it is just a pool of negativity.
The essence of hip-hop is creativity, community, no judgment in terms of race, and helping each other in life. Illmuzik is all those things in spades. We should be very proud of what we have here. So I figured I would just say thanks to everyone! It's nice to know that there is a little bit of culture still out there that is true to what hip-hop really is.
