I dont know your situ and its all love of course, but I strayed way away from religion bcos I didnt agree with so many of the fundamentals of it... and my family still love me... Slim Shady LP and Marshall Mathers LP are pretty much masterpieces.
Shit he put together, lyrically speaking, just sounded like the words were made to go together. All the stuff he made around that time was absolute brilliance. These were also put together with Dr Dre.
After Eminem Show it just dropped off imho. And like Delta Said, I can't really go back and listen to stuff 'cause feels kinda corny.
Yeah you get people who "Stan" him, or don't really listen to rap. But you get exactly the same with majority of "2pac fans" imho.

You make a good point... BUT, Im sorry, he's just not the GREATEST OF AAALLL TIME. If you know about Hip Hop you'll realise this... IMO (btw im not saying youre claiming he IS the GOAT)
Em is great and his first 2 albums have bits of genius in them (especially at the time when it dropped!)... But there were MCs in the underground making great music with just as extreme content and rhyme schemes (Necro, Cage) they were telling stories too (Pharoahe Monch, Redman, KGR, Ghostface, Big Pun etc), freestyling, raw multi-syllabic rhymes and have 2/3 classic albums under their belt.
You see, this is the thing for me, and a key point.
I had a massive paradigm shift at one point. So, I used to be on that; whoever was coming with the most complex multi-syllabilic bars, with clever punchlines --- that was the best! That used to be my feeling and thoughts on it. And i used to mock any mainstream/chart shit.
But there was a moment, where for me it shifted. To like a middle ground. I wasn't on fully cheese wack mainstream shit... but similarly, that underground shit became corrrny af. Sounded mega fucking dorky, mega corny, and just real cringey. Motherfuckers rapping about calculators and the periodic table n shit, all with some corny emphasis and flow.
More me, the golden recipe consisted of a mix of clever rhymes and flow. For me rap needed to have a bit of swag to it. Some nonchalance, some flavor. Cockiness. It needed bounce. Needed attitude.
For me... Method Man, Fabolous, Jay Z are a few names that had that for me. Real clever bars, dope flow, and you can hype yourself up to their records. And for me I find rappers like Ludacris and Busta Rhymes are never mentioned enough.
To bring it back to the point, for me, okay something can be mega fucking complicated, but it needs to sound good. Just 'cause something is complex, doesn't make it good. In fact, it's complexity can take away from its 'goodness'.

Exactly that! Em kinda falls into that catagory for me... Incredible rhyming abilities and glimpses of genius, but, if you listen back now, often a very similar cadence and flow throughout. And the stuff that shocked me as a kid, I listen back now and its pretty juvenile... And since Ive delved deeper into the culture I realised Ems inspirations and see where he got it from. Busta Rhymes is defo unsung and Im skrewing I didnt mention him already haha

"GOAT" is tossed around so much that it doesn't mean what it actually means anymore.
When considering who's the best, it's always subjective. What's it based on? What era? What style? It's impossible to label someone the best MC unless you're specific.
Eminem is good but overhyped. I was never a fan of his doubled vocals, it just makes people always go "OMG EM SOUNDS HUNGRY ON THIS TRACK".

A @Fade lotta cats need to double vocals.
The @Iron Keys golden recipe is what I look for in artists period and I love when artists have attitude and panache w/the phrasing, voice, etc. I never thought complex automatically equals good (but I do have a longtime hatred for "nursery rhyme" rappers of the 00s like Flip and 'nem)

I actually do think Em is probably the greatest emcee of all time. And come on Fade lots of rappers double vocals. There are a lot of great rappers we can talk about but Em is just so consistently great. I think you can make a pretty compelling case for him being the GOAT.

GOAT is purely subjective as is anybodys favorites.
There are many really dope emcees that dont get the credit they deserve.
Pharoahe, Busta, Missy, Bahamadia, Sticky Fingaz, B Real, Redman, Kool Keith, Lord Finesse, AG, Erick Sermon, Guru, Mad Skillz and thats just what comes to mind, I know Im forgetting loads.
I could keep going, but thats what made hip hop so great, it had such a great diversity of talent and styles, where freshness and originality won the day. Whereas its become how to all sound the same.
