I need help, big time...

For those who do really well @ mixing on here (you know who you are),

I need someone to listen to these joints (not like showcase) and tell me EXACTLY what is wrong with the mix..


My artist thinks he's an engineer now and decided to mix down these records himself and is telling me they sound crispy...Of course I didn't think so...but he doesn't believe me. So I'm going the 3rd party route....


I don't have any $ to offer, but I can try to see if I can slip one of yall something from my HD in terms of drums, instruments, etc....All I need is like 10 min of ya time to take a listen of each track and hit me up detailing what the hell is wrong with these tracks....

OUCH! your mids are otta control, man its hard to listen to. There is like NOOO low end either. The mixs are totally uhh, he needs a bunch more compression on things to even out the volume. There are a bunch of instruments on each others toes, some proper eq would give them space. The drums are totally mixed wrong they dont sound like a drum machine or a real kit. It sounds like he ran the master bus through a mastering plugin and used a bunch of presets ugh. The stereo image is totally wrong as well. Basically if I was mixing this stuff I would remove EVERYTHING he did break it down and start over.


Honestly I cant even listen to one song all the way through. blah.

The instruments don't sound connected to each other, this is a mess.

Hmm. It sounds smashed to shit. Not stategically, clean, potent smashed. But lazy smashed lol. *Turns to track 2* Yea nothings breathing. *Turns to track 3* same. *Turns to track 4* it's like its managed to be bottom heavy and top heavey all at the same time lol *Turns to track 5* yea dont relese this... *Turns to track 6* the beats sound like they have potential... *Turns to track 7* but the mix is ruining it.

It sounds like he can spit and the beats are dope but... the mix wont allow me to listen and FEEL it.
If he releases it, ask him to take you out the shout outs lol but seriously, redo this joint.

yea thats a really good way to put it. Its really hard on the ears. Thats what I was kinda trying to say, the low end is a real mess. Well its all a big mess ha ha

I am new to the mixing thing, but I know when I hear a good/bad mix.

Any good analyzer I could use? (Trying to get har-bal as we speak, I hear that's something that I should consider getting)

Ozone or even Fabfilter Pro Q. Currently my fav Eq for boosting cutting etc. But the Spectrum Analyzer if my fav lately. very clear and precise.

Harbal will def help the harsh, but it wont cure an overall bad mix, that just takes time and practice.

wowwwwwwww son. them mixes are AWFUL!!!!! they all sound the same. there is NO definition on anything. them beats are crack and hes real punnish, but the mix just makes me want to go to the next track. you need some help biggggg time. send me 1 song in a PT session with it all tracked out. dry with no effects..... you def gon have to start from scratch....

Only just found this thread.

I think this mix is a little heavy in the mid bass area, making it a little muddy. The pella sounds at the right volume in the mix but at some points sounds course, i would reduce the volume on the vocal then use a compressor on the vocal track to boost back again to the right level . I would try to filter out some bass around 300hz and boost a little at 65hz and drop off completely below around 30hz-45hz, that should clean the sound of the bass a bit, making it a bit rounder. I would also add a slight punch to the kick, it sort of gets lost behind the bass.
Just some thoughts. Its not a bad mixdown but Im just trying to help, I havent heard the other tracks yet, so cant comment on if its an improvement.
