I tried to search the forums to this answer to my problem but i can't find it. I got my mic plugged into my computers soundcard but i can't figure how to record vocals into cubase SX 2.How do I configure the mic to record in cubase. I need a detailed explanation. By the way I just have a cheap radioshack mic pluged onto a stock pc soundcard. With just mic and line in inputs.

I don't have Cubase, but check under Options in the menu somewhere, there should be something for Audio Input. And in the Windows Mixer (the speaker icon in the system tray on your computer), you need to make sure Microphone is on for Play Control and Recording Control.

just clikc the "record" icon on any audio track, press record and talk into the mic. it should be that simple

since you work with a stock card using windows, you will have to check through those options to make sure its on

so

if you still have problems, you need to tell us exactly whats going on .

Well basically I don't hear anything coming out my mic.It seems like I don't have something configure on the devise setup in cubase. There's no sound coming out what so ever. When I speak into the mic nothing happens.

Well, Fade if you didn't already know, I'm having this exact same problem, but I'm using a linux box,not windows. I've gone into KMix and turned my mic on, but still no response. Mic is good, I can hear it through my stand alone mixer. And sound card is good. Some sounds from some apps play, but not all sounds. Since my problem is along the same lines as this thread only linux based, I'll ask if anyone has got any ideas.

Fade. P.S. -Having trouble installing audacity. Now I don't want a spoiler, I'm still researchin, But throw me a link or two. Thanx

For Audacity I can't really help you, I've never messed with it. What's the exact problem though when you try to install it?

My mic's not broken I have'nt touched it really. I just got it.
This is strange lol. Are you able to record anything in Cubase? Are you able to playback anything? Do you hear anything at all? In your settings in Cubase, is it all configured properly? That's the only thing I can think of right now. Maybe you need to choose the proper input/output for your audio settings.

Well, try this...

Open your volume control window (the one were you can change volumes for synth, wavs etc...
go to options/properties
Click on the recording dot thingy...
Click OK
Now, your volume control window should be a recording volume window...

Check to see if the mic is the input selected. If not, well select it (duh). If the volume is not high enough, well raise it (duh).... I guess you get what I'm saying...

I already did that when I first got the microphone. But what should do in cubase.I know I don't just open up cubase go to a audio rack click record and start recording vocals. There's something missing.

Try pressing the "on" button on your mic...

Seriously though, I might have misread this thread, but it seems as if you only looking into Cubase, and it might be your windowsmixer. Have you gone into you Windows Control Panel, chosen the Sound option (not sure what it's called in english), choose Advance and then under Properties menu, mark the "Recording" dot, choose OK and then mark Microphone (if Microphone is not shown, you have to mark it in the list after you've chosen the "Recording" dot and pressed OK...if it is marked, make sure the volume is turned up.
If you already have done all this, then my bad. Regarding Cubase, I can't help you...sorry.

I've done everything you guys are talking about.

Maybe my sound card is messed up. I have the mic hooked up to a 1/8 inch adapter which goes in the mic input on the soundcard.

I have a dynamic mic is that okay.

should microphone be only thing checked on the volume control?

chazzo.......1st check to make sure ur mic is working and that you dont need a phantom power amp to make it work. to check - try another program like sound recorder, just something simple - and with cubase you do need an asio soundcard orrrrrrr the kx driver for non-asio soundcards.

you can find the driver here: http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/

and a tutorial on how to configure it for cubase here: http://members.home.nl/nahutec/kxtutor/cubase/kxcubasesx.htm

im sure this will work......ive been through that shit already
