I Got My Eps16+!!!!!!!!!

I finally got this beast. And im posting this for anybody who was looking into this or just wants to know about it.

This thing is mad heavy. Your gonna need a strong table or strong keyboard stand. The back heats up real quick and i have a window fan, with an aluminum foil funnel that directs the air at the back of the EPS. You gotta load the OS in when it starts like the MPC2000. Its got some built-in effects that are actually pretty descent. I got it for $295 and that was a steal. Its pretty much, a confusing, heavy, MPC2000 with a hard to learn sequencer, and keys instead of pads, andisnt as reliable as the MPC unless you have the fan or something to cool the back.

YOU COULDVE MASTERED THE MPC2000XL AND BE ABLE TO MAKE A BEAT IN YOUR SLEEP WITH IT, BUT THE EPS16+ WILL STILL BE KINDA HARD TO UNDERSTAND.
After learning how to use the MPC and thinking it was hard, i start using this thing and its like learning a new language. Almost none of the things i learned on the MPC can be applied to this thing.

I love this thing, and im glad im a youngn cuz this is gonna take me about 8 months to find its full potential, and about 1 1/2 years to master it.


If you get this, the Manual is a 100% must have, and search for that place that makes custom rear fans for this.

Great Piece of equipment for being as old as me (1988), but very powerful.

The 1MB of memory that everybody complains about, is a lot more then you would think. I loaded a kick, smare, hi-hat, bank of piano's, and a bank of bass, and put them all into there own tracks and sequenced them, and it still had 1480 blocks out of 2030 blocks left.


Its not as good as the MPC or half as easy to use, but it is not a waste of money. You cant even explain it, you gotta try it for yourself. And believe me, it will take more then a couple days to make a beat.

Any questions about it, or any past experience with the EPS16+ or ASR-10, id be happy to hear it.

yo man im just confused Why r u doing this?.......r u just tha type of cat that likes a challenge? Do u feel once mastered u will be able to make better beats with the EPS? I know alot of cats are pickin up old equip just becuz they found the current hot producers use them for ther beats.I'm pretty sure ur not one of those cats......but ya let me know.....i commend u though ur a lot more dedicated than me...if i had mastered the MPC 2000Xl the only change i would make was to a 4000....hollla at ya boi

I spent 5 Hours non-stop in front of it today, and its not as hard to learn as i said earlier, but it will still take a lot of time. But im not stoppin any time soon.

I respect that, thats a good question. I pretty much got the EPS16+ because i feel like, "Okay, ive made beats on a computer, and its easy for me now. Ive made some beats on an Akai (2000 and 2000XL), and its pretty understandable for me now."

If i wouldve never used an MPC, and i just said,"No, im only gonna make beats on a computer, i dont care about MPC's, Im just gonna use the same shit until i retire from makin beats." That dont sound right. That sounds kinda ignorant.

What im trying to do, is to learn all these different ways. Once i master the Ensoniq (EPS16+ & ASR-10) i will probly try out a Motif with something else. Then master a Roland Fantom.


I have the perfect thing you can compare it to.
Say you been savin your money for 10 years, and you got $30,000 cash.
And You wanna buy a car. If your stupid, youll go right to the Nissan dealer and get the 2004 Maxima. What im tryin to do, is go to the Dodge dealer. Get the Intrepid and use it for a couple years. Then sell save up again, and then go to the Chevy dealer and get the new Blazer. Then save up again, and go to the Chrysler dealer and...etc. etc.

You see what i mean now? Im tryin to get a taste of everything. I got alotta life ahead of me, and by the time ive mastered everything i wanted to try, i might have some labels attention, ill be able to make hot beats on whatever equipment is in the studio. Or i will have time to go back to whatever piece of equipment was my favorite.


I wont have to be thinking about, "shit, i bet the Yamaha sequencer was better, i wasted all that money." Instead, ill be sayin "its all good, im glad i got this thing cuz i didnt like the yamaha sequencer that much anyway."


Its pretty much:

-I want experience & knowledge for the studio. Ill also be able to feel more comfortable talkin to more experienced producers then me. Theyll be sayin "Did you see that kid in the studio yesterday? He was runnin the MPC, ASR, Motif, and the Fantom all together. And it looked easy to him!

-I do like a challenge. Only if its somethin i wanna do. I wanna make beats, so this is a good challenge for me.


-Last reason was because The ASR-10 and the EPS16+ have the same sequencer. And the Alchemist uses the ASR-10. I wouldve ended up using an Ensoniq someday anyway, but i decided to get the EPS as my 3rd beatmaker because i wanted to see where AL was comin from. Pretty soon, ill be fluent on this and ill have 3 things to choose from for my favorite piece of equipment.

^pretty interesting post


i saw a eps16 at the pawn shop for about $199 (not sure if it's the same thing, it doesn't have a + on it anywhere i could see) looks like it's in pretty good shape except one of the keys is cracked, but still playable, i wasnt able to actually play around on it to see if it's something i liked, but i may pick it up just to get some experience with something other than an mpc (1000). The one thing that is holding me back is the fact that i have no knowledge of how to play a keyboard, i know nothing about notes, etc etc, my main technique is sampling, so i'm not sure how useful a keyboard would be in my arsenal

I did a whole album on a EPS 16 it's a tight machine my only complaint is it's low sample rate basses don't sound good when they're scaled sometimes the sequencer is kind of primitive, and there's no effects. But it's workable, when I learned how to really use it I could freak it. The 16+ is the same with effects and a higher sample rate. I have a ASRX now and it's the sh*t it's just like the ASR 10 except without the recording capabilities and with onboard sounds. The ensoniq machines are slept on period.

It's cool to learn to use every piece of equiptment but most important is bettering yourself as a musician and beatmaker. You could know every piece of equiptment there is but if you can't make a good beat on any of them all the info is useless.

Good shit Helix, I'm an EPS 16 + user myself, the ASR-10 is a better animal, but you should be alright, I never cracked open a manual for none of my machines, except the Cubase manual,

Ive been usin this thing since monday night and im real pleased with it. I cant even predict what rate im getting better at because i make a big step every day. But i just wanna see what some of you think of this setup im usin right now.


Im usin my S20 to record the part of the record/tape/cd i wanna sample. I chop it down and everything then assign it to a pad. Find the other sound i want, chop. assign. find..etc....
Then once i have all the sounds i want (or most of the sounds i want) i record them into the EPS16+ on the 8 different tracks.
Then i work from there. It works real good goin like this. I love the way that you put one sound on the EPS and it goes to every single key. So i can use samples i wouldve never used before, and freak them without having to pitch-shift every time i wanna change the note.


One question i got for brucewayne or anybody who uses the sequencer on the EPS16+. Every time i make a new sequence, and ill record it, its always a little bit off right at the end of the sequence. You know what imean? U have this problem? Like you gotta press stop EXACTLY on the tenth of a second that you want the sequence to end on, or your loop is a little bit off. And thats the worst shit in the world, cuz you cant nod your head to it fluently. You nod your head to the beat for 4 bars, then you gotta reset . Know what i mean though?

Any help with my sequencer prob would be greatful. Other then that, i love this machine and i can stick wit this for a while.

I got the problem fixed. I dont have any problems with this thing, and once i get a couple more beats ill put a couple in the showcase.
