Show money has nothing to do with record sells. You're taking my point somewhere else which I expected someone to do in order to make their point the Gospel!

Majors don't care about your show money...they care about your record sells. (unless you're giving up show money to the labels which is a definite "no no" as an artist)

There is no way in hell you can make me believe C'mon is happy, satisfied and content with the mediocore units sold of his album, neither is Kweli. If the only way you can make money is touring 365 days a year, that has to get old real fast. Both these dudes have familys so I'm sure they don't base what they do strictly on touring. They want that record sell money like everybody else!

Neither one of us knows these dudes budgets so we really can't speak to that as being fact. You saying Kanye spent this as opposed to 50 is a "guess" at best. I don't think Kanye is cutting corners to save money especially with the industry being in the state that it's in right now. He's going just as hard as 50. He is without a doubt spending less for production because he's a producer. He's probably spending less for outside production as well, but it's probably because he's doing production for the dudes that he's getting production therefore probably charging them less. 50 got several tracks from Producers on PMP worldwide like Lab Ox so the average price of those tracks is only about 7G. He didn't have to go to the bank to pay that tab now did he? Unless its Timbo, Kanye, JustBlaze or Dre he ain't paying much for his production. That get money track didn't break the bank either. Dude getting his name out was probably sufficient.

We can go on and on but its for not. By weeks end or the middle or next week we'll see the album sales and then we can further this discussion!

LDB-You get away from a major because you dont want to be told what to rap about..
Indie= more control
which is sometimes more important than hoochies and cars and bling..

OK...I didn't know that..I'm such a dumb ass....lol

well i dont think so called "hip hop heads" are cosigning either one to address ur point. kanyes record is better , the majority of people i talk too think so too.. ladies, co-workers, cats from the neighborhood. its gonna be close but i dont give a shit who sells more .kanyes album is better. point blank period. Even u gotta admit 50 kinda scrambled with this one... 4 singles and 4 videos before the album drops? .. he was obviously nervous when the first two singles didnt pop off at all. Doubt he sells more. I think he pigeon holed himself on this one. gunit sales suck ass ... (worse than common btw) so I predict a kanye victory .. i also predict 50 claiming the label buying kanyes record or some other kindof excuse as to why kanye sold more.

So far so good for Kanye!

So everybody won't think I'm a str8 hater. LMBAO

Rapper Kanye West is winning the chart battle with 50 Cent on both sides of the Atlantic, early sales figures show. He's projected to move 700,000 units this week! 4 x as many album sales as the current sales champ T.I did in his first week. Very impressive!

I just hope his recent tantrum at the VMA's doesn't hurt his career being that the boss also owns BET. He canceled at the last minute on TRL today. I hope he knows that there are consequences for his actions. The same ones that prop you up can easily break that ass down no matter how great you think you are. He needs to have a lil talk with Michael Jackson!

He debuted at the #1 spot in both the US and UK which is unheard of! Gotta give him props on that.

And like dacalion mentioned in a now closed thread:

"Something to ponder...1 more Kanye -vs- 50 thread

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The more I learn about this whole 50 -vs- Kanye deal, the more things appear to me as being shaky. Let's look at some facts...

1. Kayne said on 106 & Park that his album was supposed to be released first but because of the artwork on the cover, it was pushed back until 9/11.

2. Kanyes management told him that 50 had 9/11 first as a release date.

3. Kanye was asked to perform in a suite instead of doing it onstage at the VMA's.

4. Kanye had the number 1 song on the boards but after 5 VMA nominations, he didn't win one.

5. Kanye and 50 appear on 106 & Park building on "a monumental day in hiphop".

6. 50 says if Kanye wins, he's getting out the game.

7. And all the other media attention that these 2 camps have gotten...

Everyone knows how quick WE are to say that it's a conspiracy or some foul ish is going on and IMO they are right BUT "if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck and so on....it's probally a duck."

This is what I personally feel is going on. Call it "coinsidence" that they both dropped albums on the same day, but nobody can tell me that somebody didn't see the dollar signs piling up because of this whole situation. Things can happen by coinsidence but when they just keep coming and coming then you can bet your last dollar that there is some planning going on behind the scenes. I think that the major labels have been wondering if hiphop is still a profitable business (in the mainstream) and what better way to find out than putting the 2 top contenders in a head to head battle? Lets build this as the "clash of the titans". Another thing...that battle ish is played out, The Game milked that ish to the end....lol, but anyway, since we can't give these cats a pair of 9mm's and throw them on the streets to battle it out, plus even if we could we know who would win that, and its kinda hard to be builded as a thug or gangster when you came out as a college dropout that sported polo or izod shirts so lets just do a friendly battle of record sells. See where I'm going with this?

Something to ponder thats all...

I believe Kanye will win this "battle of numbers", because his album is appealing to a much wider audience. his album is very "pop influenced" to say the least. 50 is relying on his old formula thinking that's still what people want from him. 50 struggled with this album by his own admittance. he said this was his most difficult project creatively simply because he didn't know what to write about. 3 or 4 singles flopped. he pushed "i get money" hard. there's like 5 remixes. the remix with ludacris is the one i hear on the radio (the station is primarily rap and r&b). i don't hear kanye as much, when i do, it's "can't tell me nothing." i just happen to switch over to another station today (rap r&b and pop is their program) and i hear kanye's "stronger," the daft punk sampled record. 2 singles, occupying regular rotation in two formats, being heard to larger variety of listeners. so Kanye is trying to obtain the pop/variety listeners with this release. mind you this was not by a "creative conception" if you will. this was Kanye's aim, i believe. while already reading about Kanye's displeasure of MTV's actions at the VMA's, Kanye mentions making "stronger" for stadiums, and so on. almost to admitting to making these records for such fickle reasons such as "headline award performances" and award recognition. we all know there are many classic Hip Hop records, un-compromised and perfect as they are, that's never seen award nomination. this album isn't a testament to his creative genius as much as it is to him creating something that would appeal to the masses, regardless of how it sounds (he'll just make sure that it sounds good...that's to his credit) imo.

if labels grab hold of this concept, and yall are aiming to sign with a major, here's your blueprint on what type of album you must be able to produce. bump whatever you're doing now. it's "graduation or nothing"

record sales feed the labels, so the labels are going to make sure they eat...well.

the marketing just made sense..it's 9/11, we all know weight behind that day. if one of the two biggest rap artist (and you know you're one of the two) is slated to release his album on that date. if it being 9/11 wasn't enough of a marketing ploy by itself, why not put yours out the same day. think, what if mayweather/de la hoya on 9/11. this was a marketing strategy that required very little effort, but would definitely yield big results.

so it is what it is. but how will the 2nd week of sales look? will Kanye (and 50 for that matter) album sales drop significantly. will it be evident of 50's claim that Jay is buying up Kanye's album? will the MTV spat comeback to haunt Kanye? (i doubt they'll do anything that can sabotage this release, not right now anyway)

we've seen this trend with Timbaland..making more and more records that first started out as a "rap-pop" blend that gradually moved into "pop..with a splash of rap" resulting in...Timbaland: "rap is too easy for me".."i'm to ahead of my time with rap music." "i need something that will challenge me musically"

Graduation seems to be moving in that same vein.

Kanye did say that MTV exploited Britney, maybe he'll spearhead her next album....hmmm

truthfully, as i mentioned on a previous thread, there's 3 songs on graduation that i like, 4 or curtis (maybe it's the other way around...lol) as it stands i go with the one who had the most songs that i liked (which i do believe is curtis)

what does any of this matter to me?...it doesn't. i'm just observing the game and how's it being played, and how the rulers of the game are changing it.

as far as i'm concerned, i'll take 300K units indie. hell what did luda say "50 thousand sold, 7 dollars a pop" that don't sound to bad either.

but i digress.

the big question of all this shit is will it hurt hiphop or not.
i mean the pop/hiphop merging thing.

look what happend to funk, blues, jazz, soul. it fucked up when they tried to be mo pop.

sure u can find some of this elements in modern pop muzik rnb, hiphop etc.

but the pure raw form of this styles is PHUKED!

So far 700 thousand + units have been sold in the first day, that's real good news to me. The fact that people will still go out to a "record store" and buy an artists music with their own money is a refreshing thought (although it does seem like some back in the day type shit).

These are the actual numbers so far....it's not at 700k just yet!

700k is the projected numbers.....he's only at 437k, Fifs at 310k right now. And yes dahter, the bottom line is that both needed to and are selling well. We as hip hop producers/lovers need both these dudes to go platinum so we can keep persuing or dreams. Wu is about to drop some Epic shit so them and Chamillionaire are the next two we need to keep and an eye on. One is for the survival of the east and the other is for the continued success of the south. LET US PRAY!
