When i first started to produce, it happend a lot of time, but then i got better so people actually liked it. But how you feel, when you made like 5 fire beats that people said were really hot, then you got this new beat that you think is fire, and most people around don't like it?

Me, i find it really hard, cuz i think one of the main ingredient for a good producer, is taste, if you have a good music taste you have mor chance to make a hot beat. So when this happens, it's a whole questioning about your own taste.

What do you think?

I understand how you feel. I remember when i first started producing, i used to cry when people didnt like my stuff. I had put my heart and time on it, and people was just didnt like it. I understand now why they didnt like it, perspective changes. Today, if someone would tell me that they dont like the beat that i have done, its because they are waiting to hear something in particular from me. Something other then R&b by example lol.
Anyways, we cant judge taste. If you consider yourself as a good producer, that kind of critizim should not touch you. Yes, you have to consider what people are telling you, but listen to professionnal advice. Theres a lot of cats that think they are all that and they belive so much in themselves that their comments may be hard to take. Take advice from people who know music, someone who can judge a beat without the lyrics...Someone who just want you to touch a little bit of everything musically. Also, ask your friends what kind of beat they would be crazy to hear from you. Hope this helped. And by the way, i heard what you've done lately and damn, i respect you for real. Your good and people specially in this website will notice that. Much success, your Phat and you should know that!! lol

I usually shoot them in the knee caps...and tell them to run the fuck out ;)

Seriously, to me it depends on who says it. If it is somebody I feel that should know and who's opinion i respect, then it bugs me, if not, I don't care...

yea its wierd cause its only rare cases when most people will agree on something that is really really hot, everyone has different opinions of what is dope. i think for the most part, if your making music that you are happey with and that you think is tight, keep it up. if EVERYONE you show it to says its wack, well then maybe try somethin else, haha

It is quite disheartening when people dont like your beat, but if u like it, then stick with it...

But as Chew said, if nobodies feeling it, then, well....

Lol

its happen to me before...well actually they didn't say they didn't like them, they just didn't respond to them like they did with other beats that I felt wasn't as good...it was like I'm playing these beats that are aight to me for my brother and my cousins and a few of their guys and they are all hype about them shtis like, damn that shit is ridiculous, pressin' repeat on the cd player, freestylin' and shit...then I play some beats I feel are some of the hottest shit I got and they like, mmm thats aight, I could flow on that...wtf?

for me, its back to the drawing board. if people aint feelin it, there is no point.

before people jump the gun here and say anything.....

that is what is called "feedback" and realistically if people dont like something, whether it is other producers, artists, or just regular people, why bother? and if i still think its a hot concept, i ask them what they dislike specifically.

99 times out of 100, this usually results in them liking it. if yuo truly believe its a dope concept and people aint feelin it, find out what it is they are and arent feelin and go back to the drawing board.....

because a lot of the beats that people are digging right now, the early version recieved mediocre responses. thats what tells me i had a good idea from the jump- dont always settle for the first version of something.

plus... a lot of this can come from the "i make all my beats in 20 minutes or less" mentality... i keep tellin people if they would just have some patience and REALLY work on their beats from start to finish, take the criticism, make adjusmtents and DONT settly for the first thing that comes out, they would be a lot better. everyone doesnt work that way, but i know that would benifit a lot of cats.

Hey man it's not just you, think about it....how many chart topping beats don't get a unanimous FIRE vote even some hip hop classic instrumentals standing on their own are lukewarm....the proof of any concept is how you use the weapon, sometimes it takes YOU the producer...to breathe life into any track that you make to disprove these baseless theories about a beat that you know is Fire....but the naysayers want to bless it with the lukewarm honors....LOL fugg it man....do what YOU do and keep improving...you got a concept then get the MC to make the beat a lil hotter.....what happens a lot of time with listeners, their ears might just be tuned to one type of mc or beat or their narrow thought cannot concieve of an MC they might hear on the beat...that's where your skillz come in.....even A&R's can hear a hot beat but their ears are tuned to the Project they have to get production for .....just keep tha join in ya catalog....listen to more music, and try to make the next beat better......

fuck it unless its everyone one hating every single beat you make.. then you should quit... lol ... but seriously more of a reason to keep making shit and tryin new shit cause you never know which one is gonna apeal to which person... im allways trippin on which beats get picked by which mc's... im a terrible guesser at that

Take it from my... the quick shooter... .I make about 5 beats a day, but all 20 secs. long... Most people say, that u'll know in the first 60 secs. if u even like the beat... I figure if I can get them in 20, I'm golden....but sometimes it's the BREAKS or the HOOK that make a beat dope and not the DRUM TRK or SOUNDS....

ex: MADE U LOOK..... I think that Apache Loop has been use over 100 times, but the BREAK and the HOOK made that song FOR ME......

Just Keep your head up and your EARS OPEN..... explore and try new things.....

One Love.

There Is Such Thing As Over Doing It.
A Beat U Might Like To The Fullest Cause All The Bells And Whistles Might Have 1 Too Many Bells To It Then It Is Necessary.
Just Cause It Sound Aiight To U, Dont Mean Nada.
U Might Have To Simplify The Beat So That It Reaches More Of An Audience.
Imagine If U Gave A 4th Grader A Stephen King Novel Compared To A Dr. Suess Book.
Which One Would They Be Able To Appreciate More?

True. Some people here said what actually Is, pick your favorite beat you produce and pick the majority of your listeners' favorite beat of yours and they most of they time ain't the same. This is something I always wondered why. Like you offer emcee 5 beats, and you think to yourself: d'uh he OBVIOUSLY will take track 3, but then the dude actually take track 1 and 4, and these are the track that you thought were less good than the others!

working on something doesnt necessarily mean adding bells and whistles; it just means working on the beat to get it right. its as simple as that. nobody said you had to do parlor tricks to makepeople like it.

and i dont know what kind of school you came from, but where i went we were well past dr seuss in fourth grade.....

ALL IM SAYING IS THAT ADDING TOO MUCH TO A BEAT IS LIKE THE EQUIVALENT OF GIVING SOMEBODY, WHO DOESNT HAVE THE BACKGROUND, A BOOK TO READ THAT IS ABOVE THEIR READING LEVEL. THAT AS OPPOSED TO GIVING THEM SOMETHING THEY CAN BOB THEIR HEAD TO WILLINGLY. IF MY ANALOGIES CONFUSE U, THATS CAUSE I GOT SKILLZ. CAUSE I DO REMEMBER SAYING THIS EXACT ANALOGY IN MY LAST POST.

skillz schmillz, anyone can read a book I guess.

Anyway, people are different too, people might find the beats you gave the least attention the best. Beats that got full attention, workz, the lot are mostly aimed for a particular execution meaning that your targeting at a smaller succes unless you're already dominating the charts.
