I sometimes hear a song on the radio or somethin and be in the mood to create a slow or fast beat. then I just go from there. I create around samples on rare occasions because I'm not really a SAMPLE person all the time. Mostly I like makin shit from scratch.

Like Class, I also compose in me head, but I read music so I don't see the notes. Problem is, I'm rarely in my lab when the idea hits, so I'll beat box, hum the bass line and melodies and even lyrics on my voice mail so I don't lose it. And put it together when I get in the studio. If I sample, I'll play the record and let the sample guide the track. Then I'll buid on the track so the sample isn't the meat of the track. That way if I pull the sample out, the track can stand alone.

i just sit down and bash on the keys till a good idea comes. other times i have the idea in my head already and now, ive got to a point where i can fully reproduce whats in my head the majority of times.

I got a Digital Recorder for X-mas so now i carry it everywhere i go and at anypoint in the day i may come up with a melody so i hum it out and record it onto the Recorder for some reason I come up with alot of good shit in the shower Duno why

but ya basically my styles the same as afriques i either sit there bangin the keys or got a melody that I can or Cant play out sometimes

I think jay-z does the exact same thing when he is rhyming(runs it in his head)

class....

Yeah JAY-Z and BIG both did that. I always wondered how they did that after smoking copious amounts of weed like they did. But yeah when I saw that on tv it put things in perspective for me as an mc

My method is...
Start from scratch, which means that I make sure my drums are smackin, then dig up a sample that complies with tha beat, and finish of with a bassline, and I make sure it sounds good on any stereo. If I like I`ll take it to the studio and spit rhymes over it. Peace Yall!!!

I visualize some shit, sometimes when i'm at school thinking about melodies, but most the time i make the best stuff unexpectedly, when i try to copy a beat from head down to the keys it usually doesn't turn out the same. So i usually sit there and just make some melodies then add stuff. When it comes to sampling i'll get some songs from records and record them to a cd and just listen to the cd all day on my headphones, you can hear alot more stuff if you are just focusing on the songs. If i hear something tyte, record it on the 2000 xl and play with it from there.

I only been producing for about 2 months or so and so far have been using ONLY FL Studio nd Cool Edit. I haven't done much on the concept of sampling so I just sit at my keyboard (Been playin piano for bout 8 years) and find a good soundin melody.

Once I have my full melody and intro (if needed) I work on bass nd the rest to match it.
Classic your music is off the hook man, Damn! dunno how you can figure out Key and Melody and Bass in your head at once!! Hope it comes with experience and ain't a gift :p

Man if I could produce the sounds in my head, I would be one to reckon with. I've taken piano lessons before and it helped alot, but if you're not constantly practicing then you forget. I used take the song I was trying to learn and straight jack the keys, rhythms, and melodies and turn it into some hip-hop shit.

Mostly I just sit there and play around with different notes, chords, and scales. I tend to program my drums first and then the bassline. It just depends though, cuz sometimes I'll fuck with the melody first. The reason I do drums and bass first is because I always try to to program my drums in a distinct way because there are only so many drum pattrens used in popular music, and I seem to play phat ass basslines that usuaully end up being the track mover.

I wish I could produce whats in my head.
