I have a good term for this subject;

Fire & Forget.

It's done and cool with, dont bother, dont look back cuz next project is waiting.

I've also made some tracks that I never finished and couldn't be bothered with if people can listen/download them tracks as they're not finished and open for "criticism". Last mentioned falls under the catagory, your beats suck, you have no talent or it's toy'ish. Hehe, you bet the cleverness it is...hence the topic, they're not finished or does not apply to their appeal, but who cares about them or their shallow opinions. I like em for the whole or part of the track, that's how it works for me.

I tend to go into seasons with my music. The beats sound different from season to season, and I've yet to go back and duplicate a style from another season. I do go back and touch up old tracks upon gaining new experience and skillz from constantly making tracks. I'm at the point now where I don't need to keep making tracks to harness my skillz, it's kinda like being a patient old man. In one sesson, I can pretty much get a hit within 4 different attemps.(golden rule: never post your hits) Gaining more self control will allow me to set down at the table and make it happen on one try, which means building the track more carefully. I have other things in my life, which the music has dominated. It's time I have to give some back, so It's time to get better real quick. I've been in a learning season for the last 4 months, and I'm ready to slow cook hot tracks. I like about 8 out of 10 of all the tracks I've made in the past 2 years. But sometimes my new tracks make my old ones seem like garbage. But I still save them all.

I'm trying to make all hits from now on, even if it means slowing down, and giving the track more time. My problem I'm trying to break is that once I get 85% of the track done, I get lazy and start a new track.

i always like all my beats, if i start making a beat and it aint impressing me that shit get's put to one side and i forget about it for a few months, then come back and see if i can work any magic with it, if not then it gets deleted. but that only happens like 1 in every 10 beats for me.

I really can't judge whether I like my beats or not to be honest, I can't give a straight opinion on them. If someone else played me them and I hadn't made them I'd be like "yeah thats cool" or "no thats real crappy" but I have no idea whats cool or not. Thats why I get my ass over here and showcase some stuff :)

i say i like about 75% of my beats, most of them get deleted by the end of the night when my mpc is getting shut down and i will only save the ones i think got potential.

I can usaully find something good in almost all tracks I compose, some tho will mos def have more in them than others. Some are potentially bangers and the rest are like a library of reference.

I dont think anyone should get rid of anything, coz there could be potential in some that just needs to be removed and played with a bit.

Like any form of art, the artist themselves are the biggest critics. If your serious about your craft, you'll never be totally happy with the end result or even where some tracks might be heading. Sometimes what u think is crap, sum1 else will really like.

But eveyone for their own!

my beats are progressive.. i mean that i have only made like 7 beats since feburary of 03. but as i learn new techniques/samples I go back and edit. all the beats i make are solely for me.. so personally it is not the quanity but the quality. peace

you only know something is hot when (1)other people tell you its hot, and not just your friends and relatives, and (2) when you have turned it into a complete song and people say its dope....

i cant stress this enough; you can have the dopest track with a lame song concept and the track will suck, period. it will have been wasted. look at cassidy completely ruined the beat for "Take It".. Talib Kweli would have turned that track into a classic... guranteed. Black Moon, Redman, Ghostface, Mos Def.... Kieth Mrray, so many dudes could have ripped that beat and cassidy dropped some corny garbage on it...

of course thats just my opinion. all i am sayin is that vocals account for a lot. i did a track that i loved to death, but couldnt really figure out what to do with it because it was just an odd track, but mercury waters got on and did his thing and we got "the truth about george benson" which was pretty good if you ask me.... thats when i KNEW the track was hot...
