THis might turn into a ? more related to time stretch and pitch shift so thats why i posted here v/s s/w section..

SHORT STORY VERSION is this...

1. I have a sample looped perfectly....the sample is 4 bars and its original tempo is at 77.651...thats NOT how i want it to sound.. I want it a little faster and pitch it up to get the "right" sound...so I use Recycle 2...... BUT when i mod it in Recycle 2.1, I pitch shift it by 3.0 and time stretch it up to 90 BPM,, it has this hesitation, stop stutter effect at the end of the loop, almost like an echo..before it loops back to the beginning.. OTHER then that it would be perfect...

a. what is this?

b. how do i get rid of this or avoid it?

here's the LONG STORY version of it..

LONG STORY short, i need someone to clarify this for me...

I have a 4 bar sample that i chopped to LOOP PERFECT, its lenght is 4 bars aprox 20 sec's and the tempo of it is at 77.651..

Thats too slow for me and its not sounding how i want it..

I WANT To pitch it up a bit and then time stretch to a more hip hop'ish tempo.. of 90 BPM....

I tried doing this in the following Mpc 1000, Audacity and Acid 2.0.. I kinda get the results I desire(sounds a bit garbled or warbly now and its not as clean) except NOW the loop is off. i..e. its now noticeable when it loops where as prior to this, it was seamless...I tried workin wit it like that.. but nah the loop is off.. i even tried to chop off a bit at the end and beginning and nothing the Loop is now noticable...

I was bout to give up and somebody pointed me to recycle... and PI YOW RECYCLE get the job done and gets it to SOUND exactly how i want it..REAL CLEAN SOUND, like the original sample and I did the same thing as I did in the other programs...I just pitch shifted by 3.0 on the dial and time stretched the dial set to 90 BPM...

HOWEVER...
its a problem wit the end of the sample.. instead of a seamless LOOP, it seems to hang at the end..like its playin the end of the sample in bits and bits and it comes across as soundin like an echo, stutter/Hesitating type of sound before it loops back again...

so can anyboyd offer insight or clarification on this?

i appreciate it!

thank you

Sounds like you're time stretching the sample too far. Time stretch is a tool but you can't abuse it. Speeding a sample up shortens it's length. Lets say by speeding it up it's now 3.3 bars as oppose to 4 (1/4 bar shorter). U time stretch it to get it back to 4 bars right? That could easily be too much. You may have to decrease the tempo to get it like u want it or resample a larger part then speed it up. There are better programs out there that you can use to speed up or slow down a sample without affecting it's length.

Here's another way it can be done with Recycle 2.1: This applies if you are using Reason!!!! May work using other programs I just don't know for sure!!!! Keep the sample at it's original speed. 1)When you load it up in Recycle click view and scroll down to show grid. 2) Type in the bar length of the sample 3) place a slice with your pencil tool on every grid mark (each and everyone of them). (this is a good way to get your time sig lock'd in) Make sure you increase the size of the grid slices with the adjustment bottom left so that you can see that you have slices @ each and every grid mark exactly on the line.

Now if you are using Reason create a Dr. Rex sampler and load up that sample. Adjust your tempo in Reason and copy the sample you loaded into the Dr. Rex to track. Hit play and 9 times out of 10 the sample will flow perfect with the tempo. Works for me, let me know if it works for you. Good Luck!

i think i know what ur talking about in regards to that echo

one is the strech button i think its called or something like that ... i forgot what its called but turn it to 0. its default position is like 40. that will stop that echo thing.

d*m i was hopin IT was jus the strech button and i tried playin wit it but to no avail..

its another thing i noticed wit recycle, when i change tempo it no longer plays the entire sample, it loops a beat or 2 (dependin on the timestrech amount) earlier..

i'm thinkin drama is on the knowledge wit this one...

some quick questions then... KEEP in mind i'm new to this, brand new to s/w.. fo sho..

1. how do yall mess wit a sample then, that isn't at a good /desired tempo?

a. say you got the dope record and the sample is at 74.5 BPM..

b. same thing as a. above but say the sample is too fast...110 BPM..

so how yall do it?

oh yeah keepin in mind ONLY real reason i be puttin the sample back to 90 BPM, is that I struggle real bad wit drums.. so i find that doing them at 90BPM is the easist and only way i can feasibly do em..

but i fin'a hope yall can provide some insight on this... and fo sho i'ma try drama boi method when i got home...

I'm snuck in at a college campus using they interent and printin up any ish that will help me.. i ain't got internet at the crib so after they close here at 9pm i'm locked out of internet for a minute..

peace yall and thank you

Try the grid method homeboy...it should work. If you're having problems with your drum programming and something uptempo is more comfortable for you, you could always programs your drums at that tempo and then slow the track down. It's the reverse of what some people do that can't program fast tempo drums or anything else...they have to slow it down, lay it down, and then adjust the tempo accordingly.

p.s. There are better programs for speeding up or slowing down the tempo of a sample. I have one by sony but I can't remember the name. It's on my back up hard drive that I never use. If I find it I'll let u know the name. The better programs have a box that you check that keeps the sample length while allowing you to change the sample pitch(speed). It's what I use when I need to make a drastic tempo change. Taking the speed of the sample up 15 or more is what I call a "drastic" change. It can definitely be done with the right shit with no problems though. Try the grid method....if u need a walk thru hit me in PM's. B Ez.

the reason it won't play the whole sample might be because you have to manipulate the amount of bars the sample is vs. the tempo.
(assuming you're using reason to play the rex patches) i ususally just chop the samples at their original tempo, type however many bars it is up in the top of the window, load the file up in my doctor rex, and mess with the transpose (the little keyboard looking thing in the "screen" of the doctor rex. you can transpose different slices to different itches. then i just use my midi keyboard to play them out or draw them on the grid as ldb said.
