Radio is cool but take my free advice I had to pay for....straight from a top label exec's mouth....properly setting up a record does not begin with getting the song on the radio, that is generally the last step in your strategy, but it could be you have done everything that should be done before considering radio.....I know you didn't quite ask that question but the key is if you want a hit and spins....the record should as said above be distributed to your local Club DJ's and your artist should be booked on venues to perform the song, a hit starts in the streets first, and in some cases if you are lucky the internet might assist.....but the thing is just because you get on the radio does not guarantee enough of a fanbase or people that are familiar with your song are going to call in and request it.....for example, in your area how many people do you know that get a chance to get a song on the radio and all you hear from them is call the station and request my song....most of the time that is so short lived you have your moment of fame and that's it no one remembers you next week......the strategy should be to set your record up properly and then by the time it does get to the radio your fans are like..."that's my shit" or "that's my song right there "there are so many business aspects to know...plenty of conferences and connects clued me in this so imma pass on what i know as fact.....anyhow that's my two cents and free advice that i had to pay for to hear how to properly set a record up before it gets to the radio....but for the indie and 3 minutes of fame a lot of local stations have the late, late night local music show if you are lucky...you just have to be persistent, if this is all you want call the radio station and ask but if you are looking for a larger strategy take the first advice...
Good Luck
