dacalion used to pretty much preside over the sample flip section, and there was a higher participation rate. That and his articles/tutorials is what drew me in.
It was rough at first. Dacalion bashed one of my flips. People were trashing my beats (in code of course). I got more involved in Gearslutz. I came back when I started communicating with Relic, and started being on Carolina Cuts. Started participating and contributing more. Learned a from Fade, Relic ,Dac ,the guy that calls himself god (I'll assume it's not Kanye West), and Greg Savage.
IllMuzik is prolly the main reason that within the last 2 years, I have transitioned more to producing over spitting (i am a writer/spitta 1st, but have grown to love producing)
So for those new to the site, or new to beatmaking period, if u sometimes feel that cat's is sleepin on you, not recognizing your skill, and just hating on you, just keep doing what u doin. Don't get caught up in goin back and forth with peopl online, use that energy to hone your craft. Watch more tutorials. Analyze the criticism and decide if there is merit to it.
I appreciate the fact that for the most part , our community can disagree in a more civil way than other sites. It's all about growing, learning, sharing ideas , and helping when u can. Right?
Great topic by the way Barb.
