Hooking Up Motif Rack/oxygen 8 Keyboard To Mpc 2000xl

basically i need to know how to set up the mpc 2000xl to a MOTIF rack and an OXYGEN 8 midi keyboard controller....right now all i have is the mpc.....but im thinking of gettin the MOTIF rack and oxygen 8.....IS THIS A GOOD SET-UP???????????????.............and how will i set it all up....step by step instructions!!!....cause i'm new to this and need help.......but i was just gonna cop the motif es 7 keyboard, but all u heads love the mpc.......wut should i do, give sum input.....thanks in advance...........................holla back...incog!!!!!

that would be an awesome setup. thats what my setup was until i scrapped it all for the software rig i currenty use.

setup is easy: midi out of the oxygen 8 to the midi in on the mpc, and the mpc midi out to the motif rack midi in. just make sure you are on the appriate midi channel on the mpc (switch the setting from drum to midi, and a or b depending on which on eyou are using....)

i highly recommend the motif rack. also, guve the roland xv 5050 a look. its a little cheaper and has its own strengths, you may want to check them both out and decide form there.

thanks cold truth....so u think this is a better set up than just the motif es 7 by itself????????...and also....if i do go with the rack steup......this may be another dumb question but....can you play different sounds from the rack onto the mpc simutaneouly, just on different tracks?...i mean i think you can, i would think, or else it would be kinda pointless to have....just askin cause someone told me that you can only play 1 sound from the rack per sequence (i think that is impossible!), but just askin..........................................................
and finally...how will i get the sound from the rack to play in conjuction with with sound from the mpc.....do you have to get a mixer so the sounds from the mpc and the sound from the rack come out the same speakers....how would i do this?

i use mpc2000xl and motif 6 plus sound modules... mpc is must... gotta have that ish... I've got other shit as well but jus with the Motif 6 and MPC i've made some drastic joints... Thas a good set up kid... Learn ur MPC tho... that shit can do anything and everthing u want... lol

ok, a mixer would be the first option- a 12 to 16 channel sould suit you perfectly for beats. what will you be recording onto? that is the main thing you should ask yourself.

i understand the motif es to be an excellent machine; however it limits you by having only four to 6 tracks to mixdown with.

an mpc is merley a personal choice; it is just about the best hardware sequencer around. you will hear a lot about the d/a converters and whatnot, but there a few things to consider...

how much money do you have to spend?
what will you be recording to?

becasue i would suggest also looking at the fantom x boards if you are more inclined to the all-in-one workstation; it comes with mpc-type pads and it seems to be a more pracrtical machine for production..

the one sound thing you were told about has to do with its expansion cards, which are monophonic... yes you can have 16 tracks going all at once.

answer those two questions and i will help you the best i can after that...

basically, i have about $2500 to spend right not....but looking for deals on e-bay and around the way.....i am currently recording directly into soundforge 7.0.......this is a easy way to record for now.....but eventually wanna get the mbox protools for mastering..........right now i am making basica beats with about 5-8 tracks used.....but no synth, thats's why i was gonna get the motif, so its all in one...rite now my space is limited, thats my only prob........but to get good i need to expand, so shoot me any ideas.......i looked at the fantom workstation, i liked it but the sound wasn't as hot as the motif, and i would rather have sick sound over functionallity (another reson why i was gonna dumb the mpc and just cop the motif).....tell u the truth, i dont wanna part from the mpc cause i know the machine and it is EASY......i'm hopin the motif sequencer isn't nuch harderm if i end up goin that route.....holla back...incog

the motif rack has no sequencer...

with that money, i say go with the fantom xr module.. its about $400 more, but it includes sampling and a larger sound library readily available.

also, if you have an mpc already... just keep it. there is really no reason to get the motif es 7 when the fantom module and the midi keyboard cost about as much as a regular motif 7.

this would allow you to still purchase an m-box, although i would save up for a digi002, which will serve as your mixer. doing it this way, it would cost you an extra $500 but you would have a setup most of us would kill for.

ok....so i think i made my mind up...im gonna go with the motif rack with oxygen 8 (or other midi controller--maybe 61 keys).....but i have to find a mixer.....most likely only a 12 track mixer....but can u ppoint me in the direction of a good one, for under 250 bucks.....and how do i hook my set up to the mixer....is there only one connection and then the mixer "knows" that there is a certain number of tracks and it splitts them up seperatly, putting each track to a channel, then you play with the levels....or do i have the mixer thing tottaly wrong, cause i nerver really used one before....i'm a rookie so bear with me, but i learn quick......COLD TRUTH, YOU R A VERY GOOD MAN, THANKS FOR UR PATINCE AND TIME..............when i make my first big hit, i'm givin you a big up....lol.........holla back...incog

well.... lets see, go to americanmusicalsupply.com and check out their mixers. for 250, you may be able to get a small mackie. check out the prices. i recomend the mackie over the behringer products, even if you have to spend an extra $50-75 bucks. i have never used either, ubt the macies have such a good reputation over behringer. i think you should just look around for those.

as far as the mixer, you will have 6 outs on the motif rack and the mpc (i am assuming you have the 8 outs board) can have up to 10, and so remember to buy cables.... and try and get good ones! they make a world of difference.

Definitely go with the Mackie mixer. The Behringer may look appealing because it appears that you're getting the same features for less money, but the Behringer is way noisier than the Mackie. I've had a 1202VLZ Pro for several years and I've been very happy with it.
