I'm a real newbie when it comes to producing, so here comes my long question.

I play the keyboard, and know wanna start makin my own beats. I was looking at buying a 2nd hand MPC2000xl, midi keyboard, decent soundcard and a sequencing package.

I don't know which soundcard or sequencer to get, what do ya'll think? I don't wanna get reason, i've tried it before and i was totally lost by it. I was thinking of getting Cubase cos there's alot of books available for it. Do i need to get one of those big-ass mixing boards or does cubase already have one in it? Do any of you use cubase?

dem big ass mixin boards r usually 4 sho, lol id luv 2 hav one of em still. but yeh cubase does hav a track mixer. software is really good, but if u can get hardware, i tink its betta. pushin roun all da buttons , levers n punchin in those drums can bring much satisfaction.
u shud get a 24bit soundcard, audiophile got sum gd ones. i wud get get but i cnt afford em,...YETTT!!! ey i use reason, i 2 got intimidated at 1st by it but u get used to it, u dnt really need a book, jus mess roun wit da buttons n c wat dey do.

you don't need a big ass mixing board....

this is my suggestion
but you do need a mixer that has enuff inputs 4 your mpc and your keyboard... no need if it's a midi controller...
and for your spkrs.... don't run it thru a dj mixa... tho you can...

anotha one.. would be run all your outputs 2 the soundcard... and rec.. into the computer... using the tracks 2 monitor while your making the beat... then jus record whta you made.. on cubase...

then jus bring the outputs bak... to the behringer... or your dj mixa

Dont get caught up on buying big gears.....

what you need...

1:Computer: A fast one with rams and a large harddrive.

2:Sound card: dont go buying trutle beach or to that matter type of sound card. There junk: Midi man sound cards what I would recommend without breaking the bank...look in guitar center for a good quality sound card.

3:Software: midi software/with audio capablity: like cubase, logic and such.

4:Wave editor...I like soundforge myself.

5:A mixing board. I would get a mackie..16 channels..you can get it cheap these days i'd say $200-$500...and its a workhorse. I give it a 10.

6:a good mix.

7: maybe a out gear reverb unit? but you can add all that stuff in the computer by using plugins..

thats all you need

hope this helps
