I'm on a big hardware hunt haha. I'm looking for a set of headphones so that I can actually hear basslines instead of using the shitty sub I've got. At the minute I'm using a pair of Sony MDR-NC6 and while they're decent headphones, the bass through them is weak as hell. Any suggestions? I don't need top of the range shit, just something with a good bass element.

Dude cop some Sony MDR-7506's!

Ive bought other phones in the past such as the DJ version of the 7506's and they always accentuate the bass and treble too much resulting in a bad reference if your actually trying to mix in them. What u want is something thats gonna be as flat as u can get and the 7506s are pretty dam reliable.

Really good drivers, non-fatiguing for long hours, studio standard even to this day. Peep em out.

By far still my favorite phones.

ive went through dozens of headphones, even the top of the line expensive models with bigger drivers. none even compare to the ath-m40fs's i have 4 pair now and will never buy another brand or model.
find them on ebay for cheap, even if there broke. the at tech staff are eager to help you get the right parts to fix em. it is real simple. i did that with 3 of the pair that i have. which ended up only costin me about 25$ or so a set.

Right now my favs are the SONY MDR-NC6'S NOISE CANCELING HEADPHONES.

I only use them when DJ'ing and to check my mids and high's. I would never use them to see what my lows are doing. I don't care how much you spend on your headphones they'll never be a pair designed to accurately gauge the low end. If you hear "booming bass" in your headphones it's artificial.

The type and the size of the driver is the only true determination of how the lows sound. Unless you're rocking some headphones with some 8" drivers or better you'll never know what the low really sound like. Use them for the mids and highs, leave the lows out of the equation when mixing in headphones!

Dramas right, and thats why your better off just getting phones that are nice and flat and represent the freq spectrum as best as possible.

Soley based on my opinion - YES.
Ive owned Stanton DJ Pro S2000's, Sony MDR V700's, and of course the old faithfuls - Sony MDR 7506's which always prove to be the most reliable in my experience.

AKG K240's are good too and ive used them in the studio several times but i always hated the ear cup on those.

I can't see there being any real benefit (if any) in buying a new pair of headphones from what you currently have to justify the spending of £70-100 myself, solely for the low-end.

Save the money which you would use on this slight upgrade, and invest it into your budget so that you have more to use whenever you decide to order the (monitors/interface)

If your finding your current MDR-NC6 which cost £50 to lack the bass for which you feel you need, buying the MDR-7506 that are £60 which are also in the same model range, will most likely be the exact build aside from a minor changes. So there will be no real improvement from what you already have to justify the change.

Again If you really want to change headphones wait till the start of 09' when the sales start, then you should be able to get a good pair which RPP at £150 for your selected budget. Sennheiser are my favourite brand, just make sure that you don't rush into it - as buying a pair now rather than waiting 4-5 weeks will be a bad move in my opinion.
