What do you lot think of grooveboxes? I'm really close to buying an MPC2000xl, but its gonna burn quite a hole in my wallet. Are the all in one machine grooveboxes a better option for me?

I'm thinking becuase grooveboxes already have sounds in them, the sounds will become outdated in a quick time. Please help!

What options are you looking for Delay? The Groovebox MC-909 if that's what your referring to, can connect directly to a PC and it will show up as another drive letter in windows explorer, which you can trade samples back and forth with ease. You'll never run out of samples, you can synchronize midi sounds with audio sounds right on the box, you have the SRX expansion slot option so you can add more sounds if you like.

But really it's sort of the opposite of the MPC, the MPC comes without sounds, the Groovebox MC-909 comes with sounds, they both can sample sounds and sequence. You can do the same type of chopping and editing of your samples as on the MPC, but I don't know how they differ in that respect. Unless your hell bent on the MPC which is a great machine then get it, but compare the features with what options you'll need in your lab, check the prices advantages disadvantages of both and then go from there.

The mc-909 is pretty amazing, i had the old school mc-505 and I have to say I was impressed with the 909 in comparison to an MPC you miss the pads but the 909 is pretty powerful and you can make tracks that are full of power and punch.......also recently I bought the Roland sp-505, after 1 frustrating night of waiting for what seemed and eternity to load samples i returned it.....also the quantize seemed mechanical....I do not recommend this it is a waste of money....I also owned the Yamaha RS 7000 that was a very nice piece....I only sold it because I was beginning to see it gather dust after copped the Motif.....right now I am rethinking everything that I have been doing as far as production is concerned I may just eventually cop 1 keyboard in my setup........and the rest of everything I get is going to be modular....and I will do all of my sequencing and mixing in cubase.....I think you have the ability to create the most professional tracks with the right mixture......if you can't afford modules and hardware stick with reason and the best samples you can get......

a lot of people bash the groove boxes, but i like them. i know this kat, he is a drum machine freak, he has the mc-303 and 505 he even has the original 808! but i had a chance to mess with them, they are nice for hardware, im a software user, but i enjoyed using them, that 909 is tight as hell to, being able to transfer samples and midi files is enough to consider it, especially if you have an assload of samples on your computer like i do!

I'm no expert but it depends on what your looking for. The 909 comes with sounds on it, but the MPC doesn't. On the other hand the MPC comes with the amazing pads

comparing apples with eggs here, I've found those groove boxes still kinda limited. The filters are crap, the fx were mediocre and sound were the typical roland history we allready know, it's a rompler with a sequencer, kinda like a jp8000 on pcm workstation, except the roms sound dull. Hence it being a dance machine for really cheesy housetunes. I dunno about the 909, but in general I dont like miracle boxes that have everything you need, I like to be selective and have gear that's adaptive to more purposes.

I know someone who has a groove box.It have a good bit of sounds and,It has effects. When you hook it up to your keyboard,it make your original sounds on your keyboard sound different with it's effects.
So,yeah it would be a good buy.

I have a sp-505 and I love it! It is the heart of my studio and for making beats and layer sampling it is great! Its a has lots of effects including compressor, phaser, flanger, distortion and more. For its pricteag its amazing! BigD i dont know how you can give such strong hate towards the sp-505 after one night. The sp-505 is full if iiissshh that u just keep descovering. You can alter the chop function for your own needs setting its level of sensitivity and chops! Its a beast of a machine and a good first choice!!
Peace out!
