I was watching the Fade To Black movie with Jay-Z and saw how he was listening to beat tapes. He heard a beat that he liked and immediently started recording.

My question is, what format should I burn my beats in: .wav or mp3? I dont think that an mp3 file can be put into the computer for immediate recording like Jay did so does that mean that beat cds are made from .wav format so when the artist wants to record over it they can, or can they do this with a cd burn from mp3?

I would burn them as a regular audio cd because you dont want someone to skip over you because they cant play your mp3s.

I agree. Just make sure the mix is tight. They can import the audio from the CD into Protools or what ever software.

mp3's can be tracked.
i export as mp3 all the time, it saves space on my computer, wav. files are kinda large.

Yea, save them as mp3s on your pc. Most burning software can create an audio cd using your mp3s.

yeah once it's burned to cd as an audio cd it becomes a wav... but you lose a little quality if it was first an mp3... not much... but a little...

Yeah mp3's are cool. Just make sure that when you record them that you do it at atleast 96kbps or the quality will suck even worse.

I would save as a wav file for the main mix and then mp3 or Real Audio for whatever. I think the WAV's have origial sound to them and you dont loose the formatt of the original recording.
