I don't know how good the Mackie mixer really is but their studio mixers are very good, been like that for years, I don't think they would put out a bad DJ mixer. Like you said, the no contact is the shit! I've been looking for something like that, plus the Firewire is a dope addition.

That rane mixer is nuts! I'm ready to sell a kidney to get one. It's a bit pricey, but I'm sure you get what you pay for. Mackie's no joke either. They make quality gear!

I'm still rockin my Gemini PS626mkII that I copped back in '99. Still works, have yet to replace the x-fader (did have to hit it with cleaner once tho).

Honestly, a lot of these new mixers bore me. Lotsa bells and whistles and all, but how do they hold up over time?

I got the 626 'cause my boy Disco D had one at his old residency. Shit hasn't failed me yet in 7 years. How long before that Rane starts fuckin' up?

Rane mixers last damn near forever, even if you're rough with the crossfader doing tricks and what not

I like the new rane because it lets you manipulate ur mp3's like their vinyl scratching and juggling, blending direct from the computer via Serato Scratch Live

if you've ever carried tons of records to and from gigs on a regular basis you'd understand why its one of the best mixers since sliced bread, not to mention it has one of if not the best crossfaders on the market

I'm not too sure about the mackie though since its so new and I havent had a chance to mess with one

Vestax also makes great mixers

Yeah, I have to agree that Serato Scratch is tha joint! I was a demo dj for them at the electronics show in Frankfurt when it was first being developed. I've got a Vestax Samurai and I don't know if I would like to give it up for either one of those mixers. As far as the software goes; you can't go wrong. Serato Scratch is tha shiznit!

Best believe, I've carried many a crate of records in my time. I've been a rave DJ (detroit techno, electro, and ghettotech) for the last 8 years or so lugging around two overloaded travel cases, record bag and a crate or two during that time (I won't go into what I carried around back when I first started in '91).

Even still, I don't like the thought of using mp3's for a show. It's lazy. There's nothing to it, it's too easy to be a dj now because of crap like this. What ever happened to listening to vinyl at the shop for hours on end looking for that special track you could drop into a mix and have everyone wondering what it is? What happened to learning how to scratch and discovering the little nuances that make your tricks sound better? Shit, these clowns nowadays don't even have to learn how to beatmatch anymore, the fuckin mixers have bpm counters on 'em to make it easy. There's a craft, an art if you will, to being a good DJ. Shit like this makes it so any fool in a sweatsuit and j's can call themselves a DJ.

I feel what u saying

I think the problem comes in when someone has never messed with vinyl and jump straight into serato or a mp3 player and they think they are Mr. Super dj

just for the info you know u can still search for ur obscure vinyl and record it into serato and play back that way also, so ur not just limited to online download sites

the thing I like about serato is it has good response as well and allows u to cut records up very similar to regular vinyl, or u can just use regular vinyl and cut that up with a mp3 playing from the computer or the other turntable

Its all a matter of preference anyhow

I just think its way more convenient when doing a lot of shows, I still carry all my vinyl to shows but bets believe when I can afford to get the laptop and serato setup, all I will have to carry is my laptop, 1200s,mixer, and a few records as opposed to all those crates that I have been carrying for years

dont get me wrong the digging aspect never stops cuz I'm always looking for a hot sample

...many people also that argue that old school tapes have a better sound than cds but we still use them, same goes for protools and other software daws

its technology either u can grow with it or ignore it

Have you ever seen Rane's 'coke' test on their faders? They put the fader in a bowl filled with CocaCola and start cutting while it is still submerged and it still works!!! there is a lifetime guarantee on their magnetic faders. I've had my TTM56 for 4 years and there's no difference in the sound or cut in.
