yo to all you guys with websites, how much did it cost and how long did it take you to get it up. I'm planning on getting one soon, but i'm not sure how to really go about it, or who would be a good web host, for all of you that have a site, could you point me in the right direction to get started.
The better web hosting companies offer the following:
If you purchase a domain, you don't have to get hosting thru that company. In fact, if you are unhappy with a company, you can transfer the whole damn site to another web hosting service!
When choosing a site you basically want to measure the monthly rate vs. the reliability of the company.
1. A toll-free customer service hotline.
2. Unlimited Email Accounts.
3. Free Setup Fee
4. Money Back Guarantee at least 30 days.
5. Should support all multimedia types/files since you want viewers to hear music on an artist's site.
**Server security is highly important because if you're doing credit card transactions you don't want that info getting into the wrong hands.
Most of the mid-level to high end companies have that in place.
Server uptime is THE MOST important issue because if the server is always down, that results in your your site is down and people wont' come to the site.
AVOID free (no price) web hosting services. They are free because sponsors pay big money for pop-up advertising which is a nuisance for people navigating the site.
**The company that I use personally is Startlogic.com. They are the most reliable company for the lowest price on the market.
I pay them cats 90 bucks a year (upfront not monthly) and it works good for me.
