well, what else are you using with it? thats the best place to start. are you going to be sampling, do you sequence with your pc, do you use mostly keys, do you want to use mostly keys, or live guitars, things like that? and what is your budget? the obvious first response is the mpc, but there are options besides that. the emu mp7 is a good one, just add a rom or two and you are set. the rs 7000 from yamaha is supposed to be good, there are the lower end boss models, but those seem more geared towards guitar players and the like. there is also the korg es series, but dont waste your time with those... basically toys. you can also use your pc... put up info on what you are working with finacially and what other equipment you are using and we can give a better response.

homey if you thinking pharrell/tim/ dre/ premo/blze/west or any other big producer

be using fruity loop... or a cheap software program you wrong...

if you wanna just make beats sure you anythose prgrams...

but if you wanna be serious... you need mpc... either one it don't matter...mpc 60
or sp12000... or an asr...

then if you not into sampling at all... you need a keyboards...

it takes money 2 make money... start with one good piece of eqipment...
rather than 2 alright.. one...

Thats such bullshit. You dont need a MPC to make it you need talent. Are you trying to impress people by saying Yes I have a MPC Or SP12, have yall sat back to think these cats are older producers and when they started software was nothing like it is now. So they conformed to what works for them because at the time It was the top of the line shit. If you suck and cant make shit A MPC wont save your life. Kanye West Uses Cool edit to do his samples by the way he also jacked the free version.

well, the thing is that the drum machine market isnt very big. i pretty much went over all of the good ones in my last post. you have the mpc, asr, mp7, the zoom rythm tracks (which you appear ready to move on from) and the boss machines, which are in the same class as the zoom models. the only other options are software programs, which it does not seem like you want. you do have the yamaha rs series, but the 7000 appears to be out of your price range. (as far as what you want to spend) your best bet would be to hit up your local sam ash/guitar center/whatever and try them out your self. to be honest nobody can answer your question, because you shoot down every suggestion and for the price range you are looking for there isnt much.

Hey,

Unfortunately there aren't a ton of drum machines being made anymore because software based stuff is taking over the market, programs like FL and Reason offer so much more than their hardware counterparts sonically.

You've noticed that no one here has a good answer for you: I suspect that it because there isn't much of anything else out there which meets your requirements. If you want a drum machine which is better than the one you have, you're going to have to be willing to pay more than a couple hundred dollars.

My suggestion would be to get something like the Emu PX-7, it is a dedicated drum machine/sequencer that will kick ANY drum machine's ass.

http://www.emu.com/products/product.asp?product=1088

It has 32mb of onboard ROM (expandable to 128mb), an arpeggiator (cool for making new drum loops from scratch), a 300,000 note sequence storage...you can also buy some pretty amazing ROMs to load into it if you wanted to make music with it.

The only drawback is that you cannot sample your own sounds into it.

There is also the Emu MP-7, which is the same thing as the PX-7, but it has the Composer and Mo'Phatt ROM's in it, supposedly the Mo'Phatt is designed for hip hop production...

http://www.emu.com/products/product.asp?maincategory=627&category=628&product=1087

If you read any of my posts you'll know that I LOVE Emu gear, their sounds and programmibility are the best value out there. Emu has been around since the late 70's making kick ass synths, they have over 25 years of experience and you can hear it in their sounds. Korg and Yamaha do as well, but they cost more.

Take care,

Nick

PS: I started this post a while ago, but Truth 'beat' me to it! Geddit? Beat...drum machine?

Oh, the humanity... :D

Hey homie I gotz newz for you, I have owned...the MP7....MPC2000....RS7000.....Triton Le.....Emu Sp12..... if you have to have hardware so be it.....but I too was a naysayer to software until....the latest edition of Fruity Loops....if you have good samples....this software is more powerful than any hardware based sequencer with the firmware running on a lil ol rom powering it.....think about it...a pc with a 2-3 ghz processor.....a 24 bit soundcard or protools....2gigs of ram....and sequencing skillz....none of those pieces I mentioned can come close to what you will be able to create also with the tons of soundfonts either licensed or unlicensed I don't even think that the soundsets available on any keyboard or emu rom....or even touch what you can create........but like I said if you wanna just have the hardware piece I can appreciate that .....my biggest complaint about Fruity at first was that I couldn't get my kicks and snares as punchy as my mpc....but after this last version and studying how to apply the right compression and filters...you can actually get better sounding drums especially if you have the producer edition....

Alesis SR 16 (I had one, It was cool. It's got workable sounds and has 4 outs) $200

Boss SP 202 I played with it at a local music store. I loved the snares in it!) $2?? (Floor Demo)

Boss DR5 Costly $350 it's got nice sounds

I have the RY 20 ( I love this Lil be-yatch) 4 group mutes and nice drum sounds and easy to program whole comps.

Sorry about the image
