Whats happening peeps?

for starters ill give you a rundown of whats going on as far as my beats are concerened,

Im using FL studio 7, Audacity to chop my samples and thats about it. so as you can probably tell im reasonably new to this game...

my question to you guys is how do i sequence my drum snare hi hat to sound like a proper beat instead of

h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-
----------s--------------s----------------s
k---------------k----------------k

i want to know how to arrange a kick snare open hi hat and closed hi hat to sounds decent can anyone help?

I've just re read this..... and it's really unclear of what im asking for,

basically i want to know how to arrange the drums so it sounds like its being played on a kit.... eg utilising more then snare kick and hi hat.... which sounds to plain and not as authentic.

i know if you use the open and closed hi hat you get a more of a real sound but im not sure how to do it...

can anyone give me some drum patterns i could work with or work around and just generally mess around wiht?

Hello PBeats,

Welcome To Ill.

1. Layering your highs and lows into two seperate tracks, ( I Dont Use FL so if you dont know how to make a Low pass or High pass track. search in the FL Forum and if no luck start a thread.

2. Velocity of each Hit. Make a huge difference in the drum track but variation of the Velocity.

3. The patters for drums hold no law. You really want to do it by ear. Listen to some Drum breaks and try to mimic the style the drums are being played. If you can hear the difference between two of them you should see a pattern difference. This will help you craft your own pattern style.

Good Luck

The easy way with FL's FPC

If you are just starting out and are new to FL or any DAW for that matter, I would recommend starting out using the FPC plug-in that comes with FL Studio... FPC (FL Pad Controller) is a software plug-in similar to the hardware Akai MPC unit...

- Start a new FL empty project...
- Go to> Channels > add one > FPC, the FPC opens, there is a menu on the top-right corner that says MIDI LOOP... clicking the folder will allow you to load a MIDI file from your hard-drive but for now just start with the ones that FL includes...
- Next to the little folder you'll see a drop-down menu, click on the down arrow and you'll see a list of different music genres, just pick one and then click on a MIDI loop... start with the first one just to check them out...
- The MIDI loop you choose will get "dumped" into the piano roll of the FPC channel, hit play to check it out...
- Hit the "Next MIDI loop" button on the FPC (next to the drop-down menu) to change the loop while the pattern plays...
- Go into the piano roll and analyze how the notes are layed out, how the velocity of each note gives the loop it's groove and sometimes the lack of quantization gives it a more "human" feel...
- Try to create your own "MIDI loops" following those general ideas...
- Load your own drum samples into the FPC for a more "personalized" drum kit...

Thats the basics of it...
Let me know if any questions...

Peace...

yo.....

cheers for the info fellas muchly appreciated...

yeah paradigmshifter i've used the pre loaded fpc loops before with my own drums but it feels like cheating to me.... It's awesome checking it out in the piano roll though, gives me a good idea of how the drums get laid out.

since you guys did so well helping me with that i'vew got a nother question which to some may be harder to answer. but here it is....

ive got some mad loopss going.... ive managed to get some decent beats happening then laying a mad loop over it.... ive got so many loops.... but im having so much trouble getting past just a 8 seconf loop i need a into middle and endings to my song and ill i can seem to get goin is a dope looop, i need to figure out how to fill out my songs a bit more!

any ideas? i could post a sample of what ive got going at the moment for some constructive criticism if needed?

Best thing to do is use a piano roll and not a step sequencer(Playing them live helps too)

Setting up choke groups for the hats helps.

Different velocity and size of notes.A drum with a quarter note will sound different then
a whole note.

YEP I WOULD SUGGEST PLAYING LIVE SET UR MIDI CHANNELS TO 1 SO Each Key Plays A Different sample Like Kick on One Snare on the next hi-hat etc..........

then set Ur BPMz AND Play A Pattern While In Record.......................
