do you use song mode on the mpc or use your computer and add the mutes.

what i mean is do you guys put your song together using the mpc song mode or do you just record it into your fav. computer program track for track and then add the mutes here and there.....and if you do it in the computer whats the best way to go about doing it...i mean i can tell most songs or at lease my songs all start off when im making them as a hook then i would copy to anther seq and mute out tracks on the mpc that takes up about 4 to 5 spaces no big deal but i feel i could do this all on the computer once i track it in....do you do it this way....couldnt i just make a hook seq and then do all my mutes on the computer as far as the verses go or should i stick to the mpc song mode.

i used to do the song mode on my mpc -- now i actually just track out everything to the pc and mute things -- i've found it to work easier that way for me -- plus i can tweak the mixing much better on the pc -- i guess it's whatever is most comfortable for you though

which MPC do you have?....on the 2000 you can record the mutes, or if you know what you want to mute and are cool with it you can do it on the fly.....by opening the window over on:yes on the lcd and then choose the bank that you have recorded your tracks you want to mute and enable the pad that corresponds to the track you want muted......or if you want to use say, protools just record each track or all simultaneously and then you can mute with the software by recording the automation......it depends on what you find easiest.....

I do it on the MPC.... I make one standart sequence, copy it, and ad tracks or mute tracks. If o got all the sequences together I'll use the song-mode.

i do it with the mute track function on the 2000 too, works fine, ima buy an extra mixer so i can use the eight outs too, and combine the mute track and mixing

i also use the song mode sometimes, depends on what i want it to sound like : programmed or spontaneous

i think recording individual tracks in ur pc is a waste of time, harddisk space and processor (unless u want to put some effects or compression or whatever on individual tracks with software)

that's exactly why you record the tracks to your pc -- to efx them much better -- how is that a waste of HD??? -- it makes for a well mixed down track -- you know you can always delete when you're done -- lol

jeh, but that gives it a programmed feel, if u put a hardware efx device thru the aux send of ur mixer u can do exactly the same thing, but then with realtime control without wasting cpu power, everything will go much smoother....and gives it a more "human" feel, and u can always start again with outboard efx too whenever u like, just delete the recording, and do it all over (unless ur also using realtime trackmuting on the mpc, but u cant do both that and outboard efx at the same time, thats too much, so thats not a point here)

how its a waste of hd....lessay u have 16 tracks 5 minutes audio on all 16 tracks in wav format, lets say 5 minutes = 50 mb :p, that would make 800 mb in total for one track, while doin efx and all that shyt with hardware only leaves u with a 50 mb file

and uhm, it doesnt "make for a well mixed down track"..... since when is musical quality determined by the sources u use, its YOU doin it, think bout that

Hey yall all have help me out alot and i got want to start no fights...hd space is not a problem cause i have 5 400 gb ex hard drives...im not not worry about space. i just want to get some input and feed back of if anybody do this cause i was thinking about do it myself because if i make a beat and then i put it together in song mode and make each verse x amount long and then record each track into pro tools with pre muted tracks then later on on of my artist wants a verse to be longer or shorter....i would have to to A) reput it together to fit his song with the mpc then B) Re track it all into pro tools again....i just feel if i track all the tracks in and just do the mutes here and there i can always make changes to a song at any point cause its all there all th eloops are there.

kind of like the way the netunes do it read for your self.

An interesting part of The Neptunes' production process is that Williams and Hugo loop each part that they record for about six minutes (versus recording a few bars here and there), so once everything is laid down, the arrangement is solid with tracks. Then, with the Digidesign ProControl console, they begin programming mutes. So if they only want to hear a guitar part during the bridge, they program the console to mute the track until the bridge. “It's just cool because the palette is there all the time, and you just orchestrate like a conductor,” Hugo says. That way, the Neptunes don't get caught up in the technical part of the game, but stay focused just on songwriting. “It keeps everything flowing,” Hugo says. “Keep all the button-pushing and all the mixing stuff, leave that for later. Just lay all the parts on the table first. Frequencies and reverb, that's just ear candy. At the end of the day, you can have great reverbs and effects and everything, but are people humming your tune?”

Doing it this way sounds like it would save me time not having to go back to the mpc to just change up a mute or when i want the hook to come in.

my way is cubersome but it works, i combine all sequences to make a song.......than I copy my song to an empty sequence and manually punch the tracks in and out from the MPC
