or do you all just give'em the beat and work it out later. i recently got into something with an artist "about to be signed" with "connections" trying to "do me a favour" by using my beat to shop to labels. i wanted a contract stating SPECIFICALLY what he wanted to use it for-nothing else. he presented an agreement but it seemed "insufficient" and when i started to rewrite it, dude kirked out saying all sorts of stuff that im not goin to get into. basically i wanted all this stuff he was offering in writing and to limit what he could or couldnt do with it. he was trying to tell me contracts aint shyt and i should hurry up and give him the beat. is that how it works now or did i really save myself from getting F'd over?

I don't know about this guy. It sounds like he's trying to play you, especially if he wants to get all puffed up over a contract.

personally I'd say fuck him.

If you're using a legal and binding contract...it's covering your ass....protecting YOUR material.

If he's not cool with it, he may have other motives for your beat other than promoting you.

Tell him if he has all these "connections" he should know that there is a business aspect to music..and he should respect it...or kick rocks....

Sounds like he's one of them dudes who knows someone who knows someone who knows a producer/artist. I think 99.999% of people who say they know this n that person is full of shit....

what's the worst that could happen?

Probly nothing now that I think of it lol

If the dude cant afford to by a beat for 20-100 bucks (i'm takin a guess on that), he probly aint that serious bout his rapping and thinks hes the next thing to blow up, he aint goin nowhere, you could just give it to him with no contract and sell it to the next person whos serious with a contract

@ Vice that pretty much how i carried it.
@magna opera its a bit more complicated. i want the beat for myself, he wants the beat just to shop to labels cause hes got a deadline for about 8 songs and the beat fits "perfectly" with a song he already wrote. when i first met dude him and another close aquaintance of mine were fighting cause he was "suspected" of beat jacking. i've seen dude remake other peoples beat after a listen or two. ive known him for 4 or so years but i dont want him running off or reselling this beat. it has to be one of the illest beats ive made and i dont want it getting out there without me knowing/consenting.
All this after he just got through explaining how dudes can steal beats resell'em and some more stuff. i feel i have alot to lose, not to mention he was trying to down talk me into selling the beat, ya feel me.
