Congrats on that man
hey man what is the key to make my kick stand out, i have had protools for like 3 years and I get mixed results....I tried to use the thump kick, I raise it up etc ....but a lot of times my playback before I dump sounds good but the dump sometimes has the kick not as prominent in the mix....I get frustrated with protools man.....my regular mixer sounds better but I have to track my beats.....what tip can you give me for making bangin kick and have the snare stand out using 4.7 LE?

Peace,
BiGD

A lot of what you're describing really doesn't sound like Pro Tools qwerks or issues, more or less just mixing/engineering things.

To get your kick to stand out, you can do one or more of many things. If you have headroom, pull the fader up and boost the level. Otherwise, try adding some slight compression, and EQ. Use a parametric EQ and try boosting 2 or 3 dB, medium Q (bandwidth) at around 60Hz to get a thicker deep bass sound to it. If you want more of a boxier kick sound, try boosting around 100-120Hz. Play with the frequency/bandwidth knobs. Another thing you can try to do, is layer a few more kick samples overtop of your first one. Try different combinations of kicks you like, but also, try putting some other kicks you may not necessarily like by themselves on top. Maybe a very short, transient heavy kick on top of a longer, more sustained 808 type kick to give it that punch. You have almost an unlimited amount of options when it comes to layering sounds.

Also, one thing you may want to do, is....ahem, Upgrade you're Pro Tools! lol...There features available in 6.9 are SOOOOO worth the upgrade. I mean, 4.7 is ancient lol. Better plug-ins, beat detective, strip silence...All kinds of stuff

If you have more detailed questions, just hit me up PM, and I'll try my best to help you out.

word good shit swivel. i will have the same certification soon when i finish my course at sae.

and big d another layering trick is to trigger a short low frequency sine wave over the top of your kick.

What are the requirements you need at SAE in order to take the Pro Tools certification exams?? In my class, only about 6-8 people had high enough grades to be eligable to take the certification exams. We needed 90% or higher average in all Pro Tools classes (Workstations, Advanced Workstation, Session Recording, and Audio-Post), in either written exams, or practical exams. At SAE is it the same sort of criteria?

Also, EQ hit it on the nose with the low Freq sine wav overtop of the kicks. In some situations that works perfectly. Follow the same frequency guidelines I mentioned above. 60Hz for that low rumble, and somewhere around 100-120Hz for a boxier kick. Should do the trick
