Mystery abounds regarding the death of actor David Carradine, the legendary star of Kung Fu and Kill Bill, who was found hanging in a hotel room closet in Bangkok Wednesday.
Initial reports of the 72-year-old actor's death indicated police believed it was a suicide, but the BBC subsequently reported that the actor was found "with a cord around his neck and other parts of his body." The BBC didn't elaborate on which other body parts had a cord about them.
Carradine, officials said, was in Bangkok to shoot a movie, and had been staying in the Park Nai Lert Hotel since June 2. The film crew says Carradine failed to show up at a group dinner on Wednesday, but figured the actor was just weary.
According to the nationmultimedia.com, a hotel's maid who opened his suite on Thursday morning found Carradine's half-naked corpse dangling in a closet. His agent said the cause of death was under investigation.
A police investigation indicated that he hanged himself with a rope typically used with curtains. Police said he was dead for no less than 12 hours, and found no sign of fighting and assaults.
"David was a great guy, full of life, a great actor and a wonderful family man," personal manager, Chuck Binder told RadarOnline.com exclusively.
Aside from Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill, Carradine was perhaps best known for his role as the fugitive half-Chinese Shaolin monk Kwai Chang Caine in the 1970s eastern-western TV drama, Kung Fu. He appeared in more than 100 movies, as well as a handful of on- and off- Broadway productions.
He was married five times and is survived by two daughters. Carradine lived in Los Angeles with his wife, and her four children.
The actor, according to public records, had a datailed history of tax lien troubles
His father was the noted actor John Carradine.
