counts

Ok people are always tellin me my counts are a little off when Im rhymin.....then nobody ever tells me what counts are lol, if any of you can like explain it over a keyboard i would appreciate it.

In general your "count" usually refers to the timing of your rhythm or flow. I'm not sure if they are talking about the count of your rhyming or your music but your "count" can refer to both.

If it's your music, they are refering to the time. Example...4/4 means that there are 4 beats per measure and that dictates the flow of the music. If you exceed or fall short of 4 beats per measure then your "count" or timing is off.

If it's your ryhming, they are refering to the timing of your flow in relation to your music. Example...if you have an extra sylable in a phrase that doesn't quite fit, then the "count" or timing of your flow is thrown off. Your lyrics should go along with the music that your spitting on and they should share the same flow.

ohhh ok so there's no exact formula to setting up counts the syllables jus have to fit (they were talkin about my rhyming). Did you hear that track that I spit on that stresswon produced in the showcase? you think you can give me a assesment on my counts on that one?

I'm sorry but I didnt hear it. I usally listen to all of the entries but I've been dealing with some personal matters and just haven't had the time. I will keep an eye out on you though...keep them hits coming.

I don't think count really matters on the flow, a lot of great MC ryhme off count, RZA and Ghost pop in mind. You do need rthym, but your flow was nice to me on that song, plus a good mixer can fix the small little overlaps. Now on a keyboard it has to be right if your looping tracks, but that something that done mostly by ear and quantizing.

James Brown said he was told a million time his songs and beats were musically mathematically wrong, but he said if it sounds good you can't argue with Gods ears.

count is bullshit as far as Mcing goes. i aint an MC but ive studies the technique of the sickest MCs. ive heard songs where cats like Sol and Pedestraian dont rhyme at all and dont have thing written out in bars. they just write sick poems and rehearse them and spit them out and it sounds dope. its such clean delivery that they trick you into think their words rhyme when they really dont.

I listened to the track you made with stresswon (poetry) and I think I know what they mean.
You don't start on the one, you flow through the beat instead of on the beat.
I like it, you got a dope flow.
it does sound a bit like 2pac, but you are different. (I like you better, but I'm not a big 2pac fan though)

...I finally found it. I like that. Your flow aint bad. Ive heard people who couldnt fit shit into two bars. Thats hot. And you dont sound so much like pac that people will think you bitin.
