Copyright

Ok I have a couple of beats some of which are sample based and others which are composed originally and I want to get them copyrighted so that no one can steal them

I already went through bmi to get a hold of the people who's songs I sampled and I've sent them a creative sample of the song i made with their music in it so I'm waiting for clearance from them but now I want to know about the songs I didn't use samples in.

I read an article on this website a few months back but I forgot who posted it on how to get beats copyrighted and it said I needed to send a cd with the music on it and a fee to copyright.gov


Can someone give me an detailed explaination on how this process works so I don't mess up? How do I do this for sample based and non sampled based music?

And should I Copyright just the instrumental or the whole song?

My suggestion is to go ahead and get the copyright forms for practice until you get a good understanding on it. Meanwhile, go ahead and use a service like this Myspark.

You should copyright the whole song but you will need the documentation for the material that you sampled available.
