hello,
I'm wondering if there is a way to group tracks on the mixer. For instance if I have kick, snare, and hat all on different tracks, mixed well relative to one another and I want to change their levels in the overall mix without changing the ratio of the drums relative to one another. I'm currently using CEP 2.0

thank you,

Hey,

Yes you can do this. You have to create a Bus as one of your outputs, then send the tracks to that Bus instead of the normal outputs of your soundcard.

It's documented in the help file if you need more information.

Take care,

WHAT EXACTLY IS A BUS INTENDED FOR? WHAT DOES IT STAND FOR?

i dunno what it satnds for. I think it's intended for use when you want to run multiple tracks through the same effects, you just make one bus and it's less taxing on your processor. I am not 100% sure about this though..

^^That's correct. Here's Cool Edit's definition:

"...a bus lets you make a common connection between several tracks. Sometimes it’s more convenient to group two or more tracks together into a bus in order to apply real-time effects or give the tracks the same volume, pan, and equalization properties.

Let’s say you’re recording a song that has four tracks of background vocals. You want to apply a bit of compression to those tracks to give them a more punchy sound, plus add some reverb. Instead of processing each track separately (which might have a significant drain on your computer’s processing speed), you can add the four tracks to their own bus and then apply the reverb to the bus."
