It's easy.....just record your vocals after a good sound check and of course a good mic....get a sound check to make sure nothing clips...train your mc if they don't know how to use the mic and where to stand....control breathing......then the most basic thing.....most people I know and myself included compress the vocal takes....including ad libs if they want do ad libs....there are some vocal presets in cool edit...you just have do some sessions until you find what works best....but I have been seeing cool edit in a lot of small pre production spots lately....it's a good program....and you can change the pitch and speed up or slow down the accapellas and put in a new track....

also, play with the compression, those presets are not too good in cool edit for that. also learn how the use the noise reduction, works like a charm, you have to select the empty spot that had the background noise so i can pick up the frequency then take it out of the whole tracks, this just helps you get that clean sound, some people like a little noise in there tracks though. lol..i can go on for days about cool edit!

Hey,

To answer your questions KO:

In the edit view, open your vocals and got to Edit>Time/Pitch and open the Stretch effect....you can change the speed of your vocals there.

Take care,

Nick

presets work pretty good the 2 tracks on my soundclick were mixed in our pre production lab all with cool edit and we just use the Good ol presets for vocal compression...if you don't have a good micing technique the problem may be there........we found 0 problems with hundreds of tracks we demo.......but you can tweak em to see how they work....we use waves audio tools and hardware dbx for anything that gets pressed up...

Ok you say this can be done but you didnt say what menu or where to do it.....im kinda forign to the program i will try to research this particular part of it on my own but give me a head start.....i understand how your saying to select a part where theres no vocals and select the frequency of the background noise and take it out of the whole track but where do i do all of this from the track edit screen and what menu?

effects>noise reduction>noise reduction

you select an empty spot and click get profile from selection and hit ok
then highlight the whole track, go back to the same window and click ok, the profile will already be selected and it will take out that noise

also check out
http://www.kvr-vst.com/

they have a bunch of vst plugins, a lot are free, like the reverbs, compressor, ect.

For some reason when i record a song using the voice recorders after recording the beat in the recorder and everything when i burn it to cd it seems like the vocals sound good but the beat is too low and not kicking out that crisp sound like it should.....is there anything in cep i can do to the beat to make it sound crisp and kick hard like it should?
