Ok so i've recently had a pc built soley for music production, and everythings been going great,
But recently when I go to "My Computer" I do not see my cd drive, the drive opens and closes. but will not be there under my removable stroage in my computer. If i go to system hardware, and do a scan in the device manager, It shows up then but its a bitch doing this everytime i power up my pc.

Does anybody know what the problem is...and how I can fix this??????

plug the ide cable from the cdrw drive out and in again, see if it works(only in power off mod).also check if the MASTER/SLAVE settings of your drive is set right.

if still doesnt work properly then save all your data or move it to another partititon but C then delete partition C or the partition where windows/os is installed and REINSTALL it.if still doesnt work then your CDR HARDWARE IS PHUKED!

Are you using Win XP? Does the Drive show up under Disk Management?

Right-click on My Computer and select Manage. Then select Disk Management under the Storage section.

How many drives do you have listed?

I would guess the CDRW would show up as "D:" so if something is already using that letter can try right-clicking on the CDRW drive and changing the letter to one that is not being used.

yes i'm using xp

I have 2 hard drives one 80 one 200

one is under c and one is d

I checked the disk managment and it didn't come up but when i went to device manager and scanned it it popped right up under "E:", then i restarted and it reverted back to the problem.

Did the drive work fine at first? If not check to see if the model require any drivers (I doubt it but at least you can cross that off the list)

Like Open Mind said check the IDE cable and the power cable. When you open it up touch the metal frame of the case with both hands so you ground yourself just to be safe. Obviously make sure the power cable is not connected.

Your drive could be faulty, I have had drives that fail not long after installation.

Also when you turn your PC on during boot up press F8 and boot into safe mode, see if you can access it in safe mode.

The problem with PC hardware is you have to check off the possibilities before you come across the problem.

Ok. When it shows up as E: then go to Disk Management and change it to something like "H:". After a restart does it show up as "H:"?

@ mind control I changed to another letter, and when i restarted it didn't show up again, untill i scanned in device manager.

@ Noblewordz the drive itself works it just wont show up untill i do that scan in device manager.

@ open mind...i'm about to open my pc as soon as i find a screw driver lol
