i usually chop in acid then F with the sounds in Sound Forge or Fruity Loops. There are ton of programs that will do it, just depends on your preferences.

Like 9zeros said, Audacity is the bomb for a free app....Its rock solid and never crashes....Whats funny is i have all the appz mentioned up above and i always like to cut my sampled in audacity still over the others!.....I dunno why?...Maybe cuz thats what i started on?....But, what i like is its no frills, it just does what it does and when i edit, i like to space bar frequently when i audition a starting point...Audacity always remembers where i left of for example but a prgm like wavelab never stays at the same audition point....and when yer choppin u really dont need anything too over the top, try to keep it simple....I like Soundforge also if im not using Audacity......Afterwards its off to recycle with all the wavs i chopped for further chopping and thats how its done.:)

I know this question is out there, but does anybody chop their samples using linux? And even if you don't do ya'll know of some apps I could use? Like the linux equivalent of Sound Forge or Cool Edit?

Try Audacity:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/

I've never used it but I've heard good things.
