Chopping Samples Please Help

Yo i need to know what the F*ck is chopping a sample and how do you do it in Cool Edit cause i dont see nothing that says chopping in their. How do you chop and how do you know where to chop it up at.

Chopping basically means that you find e.g. 20 seconds of some violin that you like on an old classical CD, but you only want parts of it, you then chop out the parts you like in your sound editor, and then re-arrange the parts to make a new composition that you use for your beat.
There isn't a function that chops out the bits you want, it's just called chopping cause you chop out the parts of a sample you want...did that make sense?

CHOPPING IS JUST TAKING PIECES OF A SONG AND MANIPULATING IT TO CREATE A NEW SONG.

BASICALLY WHEN CHOPPING YOU LOOK FOR SOUNDS THAT WILL CARY A BEAT AND KEP IT FROM BECOMING DULL AND BORING.

CHOPING IS JUST A SKILL THAT IS DEVELOPED OVER TIME. MY ADVICE TO YOU IS JUST LISTEN TO A BEAT THAT IS CHOPED UP AND TRY TO COPY IT.

Practice counting beats so when you try and chop something up you have a better idea of where to chop it. From there its what everyone else said and a bunch of trial and error and alot of practice.

CHOPPING IS ONE OF THOS THINGS YOU HAVE TO HAVE AN EAR FOR ALSO

the trick to chopping is to chop it so it starts on where a kick would go....and ends where the next kick shuld be...or next snare or whutever..... and matching the tempo to the speed of the sample and layering drums ontop.....

u can adjust the pitch of the sample to make it faster or slower if the sample isnt at ur desired speed

Oh aight so if im using FL Studio and i chop a sample in Cool Edit how do i get it to fit the Steps in my Sequencer so that it fits just right for my loops. And how do i get the peices i chopped to run consectively in FL?

I'm basically having the same problem with my setup, I use the EPS 16+ for sampling and manipulation, and I can't get it to chop fo shyt, it can do one shots where i hit a key and it plays the sample but I wanna take the middle part or the beginning and hit a button and it plays from there sometimes, Sorry to hijack your thread but after reading how some people can take a loop say Marvin Gaye's "let's get it on" and chop it into a kick, snare, and organ and reassemble a new beat, that's what i'm trying to learn but there is no splice wavesample function, anyhoo anyone out there with a EPS 16+ who wants to help a newbie I need it

Yo does Cool Edit Pro have a zone option for chopping samples like the MPC does or not. Cause i really need to know Thanx.

Recycle it!!!!

You should try to get ahold of a program called Recycle by Propellerhead. I use it to do all my chopping. It's the shit. Easy to use also. If you can get it, go to http://www.mpc-tutor.com for a great tutorial.
