My sister got me a promo from her store. The CD is pretty good. This is only true for open minded people who have no problem acknowledging St. Louis flava. If you hate Nelly, Ali, Ludacris, or anything with any sort of Southern flava, then don't bother.
I prefer East coast hip hop above all else but I can listen to anything. I don't care much for Nelly, but this album was good to me.
There is always a debate between sampling and playing your own arrangements and it has been coming up a lot lately. This album was heavy on the synths. I didn't see much sample listing in the credit fine print. The beats are pretty good to me. They knock nice in my truck. From what I can tell, the beats are all original.
As far as draw dropping lyricism filled with complicated metaphors and concepts, not much there. There are even a few cliche gangsta pimp lines. But he does have a lot of character which makes the music entertaining enough to over look any contextual shortcomings. Evevybody can't be Aesop Rock. But I don't like to compare artists too much anyway. As far as the overall sound, I can't really find anything to say too bad about it. Lots of beat effects and thump.
The uncut video on the CD is definitely a nice bonus.
