I was just wondering where some of you "Producers" are trying to go career wise......

Do you just make beats for a hobbie?....Or are you really serious about it?

Is anybody going to a recording arts college?

I wanna know more about ya!

Well personally, I'm doing this as a hobby. My brother attended a techinal school for music and felt he didn't really benefit that much from it. I'm trying to pursue different goals at the moment so I have something to fall back on in case one of them doesn't work out. But if someone were to ask me to make them a beat for some flow, I'd take it.

The music industry is a rough one, you really have to know how everything works, otherwise you'll get toyed with by the record label or whatnot. Just look at how many artists have been toyed with in the past. So in a nutshell I'd say that unless you're really serious about it, living off of making music is a pretty rough. This is just my personal opinion..

This is my hobby, my aim is to make music that is interesting and enjoyable for ME to listen to.

As long as the music is able to express an idea, thought or feelin than its cool. If I make some shit that other peeps is feeling that great but of secondary importance to me at the present time.

I am not seeking to enter the industry maybe sell a few units over the net or on the street but thats about is.

I know from observation that artsist that make the kind of music that i like to listen to do not recieve widespread recognition or huge finacial gains.

So my focus is first and foremost to make stuff i like, having said that if someone wants a track i have made i'll drop it to em still

As far as career wise, I'd say im serious....I transformed my damn bedroom into a studio. Geez....I got rid of my bed just to make room for all my stuff. I got Vinyls everywhere, Drum kit disks, Cd'z....LOL Its crazy!

I know the music bizness is rough to get into...I pretty much know how it works, and I have my contacts and all that little shit. I wanna produce joints, and then own my own label. Thats what im striving to do.

Yeah Yeah, I know I got big dreams.....What tha hell, its better to have dreams than nuttin right?

I would take things more serious if I lived outside of this city (Montreal) There's no room for music in this city, the scene is pretty shitty.

This is my life!

What's up fellow producers...

I'm Phreeze, a 22 year old urban producer from Nashville. I have my own production company (Phrozen Phire Productions) and recrod label (Hit-A-Lik Records) that keep me busy in addition to my day job.

But...

I don't want to keep my day job, I've been a musician since 5th grade, and love the production/engineering end of rap/hip-hop/R&B production.

A little bit about me - my style is very individual - Swizz Beats, Premier, Alchemist, Kanye West, Just Blaze, Dr. Dre, and Organized Noize are all major influences but I don't think I could be cast into any of those molds.

The toughest part is the money guys right? Its' hard to buy equipment, and run your company and make money back until you get established - I think my record label is at the threshold of being able to make money, I'm starting to see some pretty okay money from selling tracks, studio time, and mixing.

But for me - it's a career

As I look at the date I realize it's an old thread but a very good topic that I feel should be 4 pages long and closed by now but Briellz I'm looking to get me and my family into a better position from music it's going to be long and it's going to take a lot of hard work I've been to school for only a year due to problems back home I had to leave school and handle things here...But I learned a lot in the audio recording engineering feild...Didn't learn everything but I can engineer my on session at a lot of studios

this is an interesting thread.

Personally, I'm in this for the long term for fun and as a career. I'm have high ambitions but am committed to to achieving my goals. I don't necessarily want to blow up on a major level or anything but to make great music and make very decent money from it as well.

Music is my life just like the rhythm of my heartbeat that sustains it. I started my own production company officially(registered w/state, etc.) in March of 2002 but been producing urban sounds for about 7 years now. I've been an active musician since the age of 4 so music is synonymous with my livity. Also, I'm a recent graduate of Loyola University of New Orleans music biz program. I know I have the tools necessary to "do-for-self" and be successful. GIVE THANKS!!! I'm not looking to be in the commercial spotlight; just want to make due to support me and my fam. It's no mystery that the freshest/illest producers/composers/arrangers out there in the urban vibe are not in the limelight. Being humble is NOT a sign of weakness... only a strength that is overlooked and unappreciated in these modern times. Love life.

Yo what up! I do it for the love of the music and as a hobby. I am not trying to sell any beats or anything. As some of you said, as long as it sounds good to me, then that's it. If at some point someone wants to spit something to them, that's fine. As long as I keep learning and experimenting with things...that's all that matters.
One!

I am in this as a career for shure. If you don't reach for the stars you aren't gonna get anywhere but on your ass still. I know what i want out of life and i know where i wanna go at this point. I am not in it to get money, or fame, i am in it to share my passion with the rest of the world, it makes me happy to see other people enjoy my music. But also at the same time i need money to live so i have to get some amount of money out of it, it dont grow on trees, u know.

This is the only thing I've every really been good at. This and computers. Now I can do both combined.

Thanks Lord.

I would love to be able to support my family with this.

The first beat I ever recorded was a "remix" of the Top Gun video game music off of the O.G. Nintendo when I was about 6 or 7. We had one of them old red plastic drums, a little record player with the plastic records with the big ole grooves in them and a tape recorder.
