rumors pretty much confirm the fact that the due vordul & vast aire, also known as CANNIBAL OX broke up :sob:
due to that fact their most recent tour was cancelled.
this is a sad piece of news considering the great amount of talent & creativity those two have had.
'The Cold Vein' is an unbelievable hip hop masterpiece, and i must admit that i still get goosebumps whenever i hear it.
i have heard all of the tracks those two have recorded (together and on their own) and although many of the solo tracks are excellent -- the chemistry they had as Cannibal Ox was so powerful that their partnership have supplied numerous moments of magic aside sorrowful sparks of ghetto wisdom.

When was this confirmed?....Have you heard tha new Aesop Rock - cuz murs hopps in there somewhere and metions it was just a rumor that can ox was going to break up?....Does this still hold firm or is this brand new news that your talking about?
I agree if those guys die off im going to be kind bummed out too cuz they do have a grip of talent atoms fam or no - there still dope as fuck as can ox - - - and tha cold vein was an incredible album, partially due to el-p's phase of making noisy yet controlled orchestrasions as beats and then simply tha fact that they do have a crazy amount of talent...
Tha lyricism is pretty dam good with those two - they got a way of conveying some deep ghetto shit in a real NY slash can ox way that you jus cant hate on...I love tha slangage that those cats use too - - it always reminds me of tha old wu tang slang.LOL.

Rap group Cannibal Ox has officially broken up. Group members Vast Aire and Vordul have parted ways and have canceled a planned 30 city tour with Jean Grae, which was slated to start October 17th.

"This is the second tour we canceled this year," former DJ Anthony "Cip One" Cipriani told AllHipHop.com. "Since leaving Def Jux, Vast and Vordul rarely speak to each other any more. Vast just wants to focus on his solo career."

Jean Grae expressed shock at the group members decision to call it quits. Grae was part of the tour, promoting her The Bootleg Of The Bootleg EP.

"People kept telling me it wouldn't happen due to the history of the group's situation with concert promoters worldwide," Jean Grae added. "Friday when Can Ox decided to pull out of the tour at the last second, as well as break up their group officially, we were pretty much left with nothing, except the pieces to try and pick up."

Grae's representatives have started planning a new tour to support The Bootleg of the Bootleg EP, which is in stores now.

im assuming vast has left def jux

cannibal ox were on the same lable. el-p would have allowed Vast to put out solo albums. i dont understand why leaving def jux was necessary.
as far as ive heard, def jux are like family. so why split just because vast wants to record solo?

I think the chemistry Can Ox had was due in large part to El-P's beats on the Cold Vein. But my opinion on the group is Vast Aire was the voice for the group, Vordul didnt have quite the charisma as Vast. And Vast Aire sounds nice over almost any kind of production, peep the early Atoms Family stuff.

as far as i know the group is just dormant for the time... they'll be workin on their solos..

i saw can ox a time back but live they were like stoned to the bone and did a real wack show.. the second time i saw just vordul and he was even more stoned than the time before.. standing like a zombie on the stage and he forgot all of his lyrics and did some very bad freestyles.. a goddamn shame.. luckily jean grae was with him and she brought some skillz to the stage..

i enjoy cannibal ox in my cdplayer but i wont go to their shows no more.. too disappointing..

@wings: did you check that tess album and lodeck's albums i guess you'll enjoy those.. i do :D

Cannabal Ox have not broken up. They said so on the Aesop Rock - Bazooka Tooth album themselves.....stupid roumors

they didnt break up as far as i know but the rumours about the breakup came after bazooka tooth.. that is why the tour was kind of cancelled of Can ox ft. jean grae and it turned into a tour of Jean Grae ft. Vordul.. but they are dormant at the time..
