Can somebody (probably a drummer) explain what's going on in this video?

Sounds like he had a drum loop, and he kinda chopped into sections that had kick + a couple hats, then placed it to work with the guitar.

I dunno if he already had his drums made, and then had to change 'em to fit the guitar or what.

I'd assume tho if you programmed your drums you wouldn't need to chop 'em. But sounds like he used a loop or something.

I think the hats kinda acented the off beat strums. Not sure.

So like chunggg chu-ka
The kick was on the main chungg and hats on chu-ka.

H.E.R. is half filipino... (nothing to do with your post tho, just wanted to put it out there ;) )

The replies up the top are pretty much on point.
Basically, its a drum loop that's been chopped and rearranged.

If you are wondering why it was arranged the way it was....
Im assuming that it felt right to him, ill most likely lean into that rather than "to accentuate the guitar strumming"

Thats whats fun with sampling...
You give the same sample/loop to different producers, they always come up with something different.

Peace
