its basically non commercial, positive hip hop. not necessarily underground or real. cuz there are underground groups that go at backpackers, so its like its own thing.
It's music! PERIOD....everything has to go into it's own little compartment these days.....silly!
true, true indeed.Backpacker to me was always just GOOD music, period. No bullshit money-driven crap.
everyone mentioned at one point or another were mainstream artists in the 80s,90s... just shows u how much music has changed into "wack"pack music.I always thought of backpack hip hop as kind of a subgenre of hip hop like club, experimental, hardcore, etc.
To me, backpack hip hop is music that is creative and inspires you to be creative. Like when you graffiti, backpack hip hop inspires you to be creative like the music you're listening to.
I've always thought of artists such as KRS One, Pete Rock, Kweli, Premier, Jazzy Jeff, Mos Def, Common, Blackmoon, Rakim, A Tribe Called Quest, J Live, Large Pro, J5, Naughty by Nature, Dilla, etc. as backpack hip hop.
I know there is really no reason to put a name on that kind of hip hop, its a little to broad and difficult to understand, plus everyone probably thinks its something different.
Yeah I agree.
I think they do it to create peer groups, so people can feel like they belong to something exclusive.
Its another money making scheme thats been around in music for a while.
I watched old acid house become hardcore, then it became drum n bass, then it became jungle, then it was drum n bass again, now its called breakbeat along with another 20 names. It all gets confusing for old thc soaked braincells.
