I'm very sure this is controller only. otherwise they could have just written a software controllable by the usb mpcs / mpds / mpks. plus they want a share of maschine's market, which is why they need to make this piece settle somewhere in the price range of maschine or not too far away.
and no, maschine does not support multichannel. but what makes or breaks the mpcs as a maschine opponent is rather things such as multi-core support, master and group parameter automation across scenes/sequences, groove quantization capability, time stretch, you know, all the stuff maschine users where complaining about since day uno.
how fun would it be if they released a product more expensive but with the same flaws another thing, judging by when the mpcs is released, they must have started working on this shortly after maschine hit the market and proved to sell like stupid.

tbh, the software looks pretty straight forward, i doubt it will get multicore support/hd streaming and limited parameter automation...At least not from the looks of the gui snapshot, perhaps from the project screen. Like stated here before, akaipro's software knowledge is very limited and with a little luck you might actualy get an ableton barebone for engine but im not that positive about it.

true. they propably just translated the mpc project structure to this new sequencer software and pimped it with vst support.

Yeah, that's whats going to be key. Of course we like the controller(hardware) but its the software that's going to determine if the product will succed or not. We have high expectations that the software will have all the functions, flow, and sound exactly like the hardware MPC's. When anticipation is this high dissapointment is almost always guarnteed LOL...

It's been confirmed the hardware is just a controller/audio interface and the price is 1k ($999.99).

IMHO I think Maschine might be a better options in terms of 'bang for your buck', although to be fair, haven't seen anything on Akai's software outside of the quick flashes on the mediocre promo video. Also, the slim model (and iPad app) has yet to be announced too, so time shall tell.

Man, I hate it when people bash a product they have not EVER touched. Let alone spent a few hours with, almost every peace of gear has a place for someone and it takes time to really see how something works. NOW I do still hate Akai as a company but that doesn't mean there products are bad. In fact these new MPC's look really cool. Not cool enough for me to ditch Maschine, but cool enough for me to consider buying to replace my 2000xl.

In 2012, I am buying a Renaissance and a pair of Focal CMS 65's. My mind is made up, gotta have them. I'll probably shoot for the Focals first.

you should check out the adam A5Xes too. great monitors for the price. even the smaller 3s have a bottom end big enough for mixing beats.

Yeah I saw his vids, some of the questions it seemed as if the akai rep was saying 'yeah' just for the hell of it lol... They see that camera and know the vids will be all over the net, its no telling what they'll say. I hope he's telling the truth because i've already decided I'm getting mpc studio.

Played with it a little bit this weekend. It is cool. The UI isnt to bad actually, but still no reason to switch from Maschine. It does give a nice alternative though

But its choosing between excite or neutral display. Im all for reliable display without pushed mids. yeah...i favor KH a lot after a few shootouts but i see why people choose either. clinical stuff doesnt excite, so you tend to go for the nearfields that jump at you. Also, the focals need drive to come up straight whilst K&H still showed a straight response on low volume. I do much better mixing on moderate listening levels, i dont look for accuracy while being bombarded with loudness, that shit fatigueing (but fun when making beats). So heres the trade off, focals go louder, push mids (which doesnt imply its a bad thing) and perform better when loud. The KH displays neutral stereo field all across the spectrum at any volume, but are less loud(you can push them more with subs).

Anyway and regardless Whether its me or dp stating anything, if planning to buy good nearfield, try and get a shootout, lots of high-end resellers will send you 2 models for trial. Important in this when its the first time is to set up some criteria other than they sound great. Nearfields, like any speaker, need some time to burn in

@Format, I admit I have not spent much time with the KH120's but they look to be cool. I was not sure about Neumann making monitors, but the little I heard was impressive. When did you get them, and how do you like them?
