Since I grew up in the 80s, (born in '68), I remember when all of these old school brothas was new school. I started DJing in the 80s and I remember spinning house music at the clubs. I could do some Jack Master Farley type stuff. Maybe even Fast Eddie. Wow! Picking an 80s theme leaves it wide open. New Jack Swing and Go-Go from DC come to mind too. Not to mention the birth of Miami Bass and the 2 Live Crew. NWA, Newcleus "Wikki-Wikki". This competition is going to be wild. And don't forget, Uncle L started in the 80s too. Remember "Krush Groove"? LOL Damn, too bad I don't have 50 posts yet. I could wreck shop with this competition. Oh well! I will before next competiition though. I can't wait to hear what some of ya'll come up with. Peace. Keep bangin in the lab.
Somebody said it Best the 80's had a wide Range of Hip Hop Evolution......alll the way from the Electronic Funked out shidd like Wikki Wikki.........whodini..........Heavy D.......to Rakim......it was more versatile to me than any other period.......Damn....somebody Else said Miami Bass and Luke Skywalker....yeah that had to be the birth and beginnings of the dirty south Bounce and flavor......I went thru the Archives......I listened to some old underground tapes from the garage and some underground NY shidd.....some of the beats were ahead of their time.....yes some were also WACK as fugg...breaking, graff....all of the beginnings were there.....
i dont know if this has been done but how about a "live" instrament beat this comp. Like who can make the dopest beat that sounds like all live instraments or they can even use live instraments. The drum kit and everything can sound like a real set. You can call it "instra-mental breakdown" or something.
or also, a beat Club. I know that a lot of people here dont like to go clubbing, but it is a good market. People would buy the cd if this beat competiion was on a cd.
I always wanted to try to make a beat for childrens. You know like Mya with "the ruggrats". That would have been fun.
We could also make a beat this for people who's about to go to bed... LOL you know?
i think theres a lot of ideas, like allternative hiphop...
also, we could make a style of beat that we think it would be in 10 years.. That would make us try to think harder on this one...
we could make a general hiphop without using a sound or something...
and to finish, a reggae beat. Reggae, roots, you know... That would be cool.
Hehe...Yoooooo!!!....Porno theme sounds mighty promising to me!....Only prob is Hoppa might take that shit considering tha enormous stash of great porn he has laying around....that means too many "uuhhh", and "Oh yeah" samples to flip....While im workin with tha one "Yeah, stick it right there" sample....lol....A shame it would be me thinks?...
im telling you that wouldnt work. there is no way to judge that properly. besides, we seem to have to s-p-e-l-l out even the simplest themes to the letter, since everyone cant seem to understand what a given theme will consist of, and everyone would complain about this one- i can see it now-
"i couldnt see this being popular in 10 years, no it would be something else. who judges these things?"
yo i like that halloween theme... i havent entered any beat comps yet, so my opinion may not count for dookie, but yo i also like the idea of having a sound kit or sounds provided, or even a track to sample from or whatever, then everyone flip that ... i heard yall done it before but i wasnt around for that one... it wouldnt even have to have drums included, just a series of sounds, or like i said, a whole track to sample from.... i like that idea cause it would really show peeps creativity in how they cut or manipulate shit...
