Signups

The signups will be on July 14th at 12pm ET/EST, and end around 8pm ET, or until we have enough contestants (whichever comes first - depending on the theme). Voting will be for one day, on July 15th, where the results will be posted the same day.

Vocal Track Allowed?: YES

*NOTE: From now on there's a criteria called "vocal track allowed?". It will be yes or no. If it's "yes", this means you can have a full vocal track with your beat (acapella, for example). You can still have occasional vocal snippets (but don't rely on them too much).

You can use whatever sounds you want, samples, synths, just remember to read the rules for the rest of the restrictions. What the judges will be looking for is originality, creativity, mixing skills and overall dopeness!

Voting

If you are competing, you will be able to vote but not for yourself. DO NOT TRY TO CHEAT! I will be watching for cheaters. This means you cannot sign up under different names or get your friends and family to sign up either. If you are caught cheating you could be banned.

Beats

All the beats will now be displayed in a random order and without any names. All you will see is: Beat #001, Beat #002, etc. This is so that there is no favouritism when voting.

cubase 11 has spectralayers, it can extract an acapella from any song. Cant wait to start fucking with it.

I haven't used it for the past year that I have been using Cubase. I tried the Izotope thing on several occasions but had subpar results.
I'm not sure Cubase has the latest/full spectralayers version.
I need to check that out.

Cubase was my first love. Hopefully Studio One will come with something similar and effective.

I find sometimes those sniped acapellas can have artefacts or be lacking somewhat obviously. Tho still impressive.

I just wish they'd make acapellas more readily available.

Its actually Spectralayers One, still not the full version though. Been playing with it a little, still some artifacts, removing the acapella and leaving the instrumental has much better results than removing the instrumental. Im seeing some good uses for it. Like when you want to sample a chop but it has an annoying vocal come in, just take it away.

Good to hear. So often was I digging into old Motown/Stax records with these incredible strings or brass sections but couldn't sample it because the singer won't shut it a single bar in the whole goddam song... So annoying.

There must be some where the strings/brass are isolated and panned? I try to find those all the time on Jazz records.

I have a vision! 3 of the top 5 (minimal) are Boombap... without a single tom or snare fill or break, almost like they were samples to begin with and still are!

I see myself coming in last but still above @LiveLargeBeats, mainly because he thinks he's the shit but he only smells like it. PS. Copy Paste does not a producer make.. JS
