Iv'e read about hardware bass enhancers that make the bass sound louder without actually making the level higher and clouding up the mix, anyone know of some good VST bass enhancers? This is critical for me because theres lots of samples that have very low bass and when I cant get the bass up too high without destroying the mix.

there's a few more but i can't remember the names.

leaving room for bass by either cutting/passing or shelving for tracks that don't need it would probably be a better fix. or using filtering the old school way (creating a copy and passing only the low) or using 1 or 2 band eq's or filters (you can then combine with the above harmonic enhancers). another is to use frequency based sidechaining

Is a monster once you experiment with tweaking it!!!! Definitely gives your track a little more punch on systems with smaller speakers. If you tweak it just right you'll balance how your bass sounds on optimal low end speakers and small speakers. It can really make small speakers thump with out adding volume which is key.

I'm using Waves MaxxBass, it does justice. All the other plug-ins in the bundle look great too.

co sign rbass and maxxbass. i don't really like mixbass too much... it isn't a "go to" effect for me it's more when u want a specific sound.

I probably use RBass on for every track, always amazed on how it can turn the shittiest sound into bass..never tried maxxbass, but RBass is the truth...
