What was your favorite year for HipHop... me?

92-95...the beats we're tuff, the ideas were fresh, and the lyrics were about making money, not seeing who's the hardest on and off the mic...Most of the cuts we call classics come for that era...

"Money,Cash, Hoes, how really is that niggas?"

Bout the same time for me. I am a huge fan of the Das EFX, EPMD, Gangstarr, Early Nas and Outkast, Tribe Called Quest, Ice Cube era.

I don't have a problem with the music now and how it has evolved but that was my particular brand of Hip Hop.

Way before you saw a Hip Hop song in any car or fast food commercial.

Hey,

'87-'91...big gold chains with wall clocks and afro-centric pendants, Suzuki Samurai low riders, BK sneakers and leather jackets...

Eric B. & Rakim's Follow the Leader, Paid in Full and Let the Rythm Hit 'em
NWA's Efil4zaggin
Ice T's Power and OG
Young MC
LL Cool J's Walk With the Panther
Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millions...

Hip Hop was still relatively new (at least to my white ears it was) you could only hear it on Yo MTV Raps or in cars at school, and it was DANGEROUS.

I won't say that rap 'fell off' or anything, but when the House of Pain, Beastie Boys, Dr. Dre, Cyprus Hill and Snoop Dog got big, it went into the mainstream and got kind of dull, the same sounds used over and over because a formula had been discovered which worked commercially.

Take care,

Nick
