Avid has been fucking up sense the 80s to be honest. When they introduced their systems and making people spend xtra money for their harddrives which were BASIC EVERYDAY HARDDRIVES.
They did the same with PRO TOOLS making people believe that it had to run on special hardware. They picked up Maudio to capture that market once the hackers debunked their theory it was game over for them. Everyone found out that PT ran without hardware not only that but better and smoother at that.
So Maudio became a toxic asset, had to let em go.
Only $17 million? That's pocket change. I thought the company was worth more. I bet the profit margins weren't high enough and the hardware market was too competitive. Also, professionals know that M-Audio and any other controller works just as fine with PT, so they can't cop that garbage on the pros.
Also, PT is used in a lot of audio editing for video -- so I think that's where the major chunk of business actually comes from.
How does selling Maudio off mean they are abandoning hip-hop? For real, I hate AVID. But I think this is a good thing.
not everyone!!That everyone still uses Pro tools
